Naomi's Story
Life
After moving from Town of Webb Schools to Vashon Island High School in the summer of 1985, I graduated from Vashon in 1987 and went to the College of St. Benedict (St. Joseph, Minnesota) to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology in May 1991.
I was then a Peace Corps Volunteer in Aquaculture in Garoua-Boulai, Cameroon (West Africa) from about September 1991 (includes state-side training in South Carolina and country-side training in Batie, Cameroon) to July 1993. I hit a goat while returning home on my motorcycle one afternoon in June and got a quick trip home (med-evac) to Washington, DC for surgery on my ankle and lower leg. th my parents (who were in Minnesota at the time) until starting graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley in August 1995.
UPDATED FROM THIS POINT ON...
I received my MA in Integrative Biology in December 1998 and finally (!!) filed my PhD dissertation in December 2006. I have four sons born during my tenure as a grad student- Zacharias (December 1996), Alexander (January 1999), Dominik (May 2001) and Erich (July 2003), and now one daughter as well, Marion (November 2006). We recently moved to Sacramento, CA, where my husband has been working, and I will be teaching Developmental Psychology at CA State University at Sacramento this fall.
