Nat's Story

PCS from 73-75, freshman year 74-75 at Briarcliff, then went to a group home in Elmhurst Queens for my sophomore year 75-76. A short stay 1st quarter or so in upstate NY with my family near Lake Champlain in a small logging town for my junior year. Alas you really can't go home again, certainly not to live. Dropped out of school and stayed with a friend in NYC, started a band and was a bike messenger in the winter of 77, found out in May on my little sister's birthday that a bike is long as a cab is wide, he knocked me two lanes and my bike half a block. Moved home for a short while but that didn't work out, ended up in a JBG home on St. Marks place ( right near Tompkins Square Park, a bad idea for kids in trouble ;) finally graduated from City-As-School in Jan of 79, not bad, 6 months behind after dropping out for a year and a half. Had many adventures was even a super for 6 months in a walk up between 1st and 2nd on 95th street. As I like to describe the neighborhood at the time, 1980, half the population was on methadone maintenance, and the other half was waiting to get on. Left NYC for SF, had three days to spend on the bus to think about what I was going to do when I got there. Hung out in the Haight, had many fabulous furry freak brother types of adventures, ended up in Berkeley (it is warmer there than SF and at the time I was qua...Expand for more
lified to sing the under the overpass blues ) and started working in the printing industry. Became a 'politically incorrect' born again Christian, but that did help me straighten up. After 10 years in the graphics arts industry 'printing and ink making', I first did a short sting as piano tuner and music sales person, but eventually went to trade school and learned electronics and computers. Got an AS in electronics and computers and then another in networking. I've been a network admin, mostly MS but some Linux, with a lot of scripting in Batch, VBScript, PERL and now Powershell for 17 years, worked a s contractor for BLS and a consulting company as well as a dot com startup. Currently at a insurance related company doing networking, storage, and security. I got married in 86, have a son who is college, finally got my BS in MIS in 04. Still play the piano, guitar and after a long break recently started up the violin again. My roommates at PCS where Ernesto Carsqillo and Mark Azar then Joel Schonfeld and Kerry Davis in cottage 14 the CPs where Jim Lyman, Sarah Thorpe and Bill who had the hippie VW camper. In cottage 7 my roommate where Mike Cantor and Leroy McCoy, the CPs where Leon Robinson, Jackie Manning, Bill Katz and Greg who looked like David Caridine. I'm not a huge Greatful Dead fan, but, 'what a long strange trip it has been'.
