Natica's Story
Life
After graduating from Haverford College near Philadelphia (Junior Year in Florence, Italy), where I studied Architectural and Urban History. I worked in historic preservation in Philadelphia and England and did a Grad Certificate in the subject at UPenn. At that point I decided to up and leave the US, choosing Poland as my destination (after spending some time in Prague).
I got a scholarship to learn Polish (in Krakow, 1993) and after completing that program did three years of Chemistry at Jagiellonian University (all in Polish; I must have been crazy!).
To support myself through my studies I started working as a translator, which led to more job opportunities in Poland after my course than did chemistry. I spent the next five years in PolandÂs capital, Warsaw, working as a translator at a newspaper, the Australian Embassy and a law firm, as well as translating books and an architectural magazine, freelance.
Once IÂd had enough of that, I started ...Expand for more
looking for a country where I could return to my true love: historic preservation. After two years in the visa-application process, I moved to Melbourne, Australia (the most amazing, beautiful city!) in November 2003.
Five months down the line, IÂm working as a researcher for the National Trust of Australia and am about to take a vacation to Poland for a friendÂs wedding with my new boyfriend (also new here  from New Zealand).
I have to say, itÂs all good!
Update 2007:
I married the 'new boyfriend', Aaron Hemi Murphy, in March 2006, and on 15 April 2007 our son, Tama Murphy-Schmeder was born! He's a gorgeous little fellow, with dark, almond-shaped eyes and black hair (his dad's a Maori). He's very sociable and running me ragged at the moment (4.5 mo old). I have a year's maternity leave from my job as a 'heritage consultant' (historic preservationist, I believe you'd say in the States). Next March, when I go back to work, Aaron will take a year off.
