Neil's Story
I have to apologize for being so tardy in writing the brief story of my life to present day.
I was born in WV in 1937. In 1943, my family moved to Ashtabula, OH, where I started my schooling at Division Street Elementary School. In 1945, my family moved to Edgewood, where I attended school until 1948. My family then moved to NJ, where I went to Maywood JHS until 1952, then bussed to Bogota, NJ, for my sophmore year. In 1954, my family moved from NJ to Ashtabula Harbor for my junior year. Once again my family moved. In 1954, we moved to White Plains, NY. In 1955, I graduated from WPHS then returned to Ashtabula where I spent a season on the iron ore ships. It has been said that the Persinger's have itchy feet. I believe it.
I returned to New York, where I met my future wife and enlisted in the Army in 1957. I spent many years In the Army, first with the 101st Airborne, then Special Forces, finally retiring in 1983, as an in...Expand for more
fantry battalion operations sergent in the grade of MSG E-8. When I retired, I was already stationed in Florida so I just remained here.
I married Frances in 1957, and we had three daughters. We now have nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Unfortunately, we divorced in 1986. I remarried in that same year to Susan but we divorced in 1999. There were no children from that marriage. Frances' husband died in 1998, and I help her whenever I can.
In 1983, upon retiring from the Army, I began a second career as a fire protection engineer. I worked on projects in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas until 2005, when I retired completely.
My daughter, son-in-law and grand-daughter presently live with me. I grow heliconias (which are tropical plants) and research my family's genealogy. I target shoot, correspond with friends and read.
Well, friends, that about sums up my life. If I can clarify anything, please ask.
