One of Neil's favorite quotes is:""I, too, have an intense longing for a completely fictional past that I have constructed mostly from scraps of information I glean from old television shows, which are an infallible and unblinking eye on the true nature of a people. The black and white simplicity of this artificial history gives me a soapbox from which I can happily berate the present without actually having the consider the nuances of perception, progress and change." - Trucideau "Nursing reinforces my belief that to heal, to progress, to succeed, and to reach self-actualization requires us to reach beyond self to others around us, no matter how fearful, emotionally exhausted, and disbelieving we may be. To assess our acceptance of loneliness as the human condition and to consciously break down that barrier. It is the barrier we all face, yet we face it singularly-in mind, yet usually not body. We allow life experiences to make us go through life feeling alone, separate from the others we are here with. We feel lonely in a crowded room. e as a united force, with the strength to solve the problems of the world. I believe humans are capable of this. But my experiences and those of others, the ones that cause us grief and further point out just how alone and lonely we feel, point to a different conclusion. That we are incapable of uniting like we should. Nursing, in a small way, proves to me every day that those connections are not only possible, but that they are real and capable of providing incredible power in people. People search for that connection, even if they aren't willing to admit it, even when they are willing to say they don't want it. We all want to find it, to believe in it. I get to do that every day I work if I'm lucky, if I get patients who are willing to risk all we risk when we put ourselves out there. Nurses and patients alike. I do the same in my personal life, but outside of the hospital, people just see you as another person to ignore them. In the hospital, they look to you specifically, because you are in a role of caregiver. They search for that connection in me, because if anybody is capable of it, it is somebody who cares about and is dedicated to promoting human wellness. A nurse. This is why I am a good nurse. Because I am that person in my scrubs and out of them. Nursing allows me to do what I do naturally in a setting that is conducive to success in my constant pursuit of proving my theory of the potential of human connection. That is the best way I can explain it." - Kristin Penn".
