Nellie's Story

I am happily married with an eleven year old son and a nine year old daughter. Their names are Joshua and Jasmine. They are a joy to my life. My husband's name is Alex and we live here in Lake City. I enjoy the outdoors: camping, biking, the beach, going for walks, grilling out and spending time with family and friends and motorcycles. I believe that if you want something out of life you have to work hard in order to achieve it. Success is not just handed to you, it has to be earned. I also believe that people should be judged by who and what they are not what other people want them to be. People should not be judged by the clothes they wear, the house they live in, the kind of job they have, etc. It's the inner beauty that matters most of all. I work at Subway here in Lake City and just got promoted to Operations Manager. That just goes to show that if you are persistent and dedicated hard work does pay off. I admit I have had a lot of struggles since graduating, but if I had to do it all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat. Going through all the struggles and hard times makes me value the life that I have now. And to think that when I lived in Muskegon and I worked in a bakery for 6 years, the manager there had the nerve to tell me that I didn't have what it takes to be a manager. That was 2 years ago. After graduating, I had to go find myself and the person that I needed to be. That's when I moved to Muskegon. I lived there for 3 years then I moved to Holland. After that I moved back to Muskegon and I lived there for 7 years. Two years ago, my family and I moved to Florida, but after living there for 7 months I had some major family issues happen that brought me back to Lake City. This is wh...Expand for more
ere I found myself completely, and realized that you do have to venture out in order to find yourself and the person that you need to be. If anyone ever tells you that you can't go home again, then maybe it depends upon the situation, but it is totally not true in my case. Home is where I need to be to be the person that I am today. Coming back to Lake City is the best thing that I could have done for myself and my family; and also for my career. I cherish each and every day that I am back here. My life growing up here was not an easy one. My grandma raised me because my birth mom died when I was 3 years old. I never had the chance to know her. My dad at the time was into drinking and drugs at the time (then went clean and sober) and went into the army. I also lived with my uncle (who was a drunk at the time). He didn't give a rats ass about me. He could care less if I lived or died. We did not have a lot of money, but my grandma did the best she could to raise me. It also made me appreciate the things that I did have. When I was nine years old, I was severly burned in a fire that we had at our house...the wood stove blew up in my face when I went to check on the fire. I grew up not having a lot of friends, but I did cherish the ones that I did have at school and out of school. A lot of people at school and out of school made fun of me, but all it did was make me into a stronger person that I am today. Through all of my trials and hardships in life, I learned that there is two things that people cannot take away from me and that would be my dignity and self respect. It's not what about what other people think of you and how they see you...it's how you see yourself. That's the greatest love of all.
