Nicholas's Story
Well I am finally fully retired so I thought I should take some time to tell my old friends what I have been up to over the past 40+ years in the hope that they will do the same and in some way refresh those great high school memories. By the way, what has happened to our great school? In sports and academics it has declined dramatically.
Following graduation I floundered for 2 years, then decided to volunteer for the draft. While in basic training at Ft Jackson, SC I apparently did well on some test so I was asked if I wanted to attend Officer Candidate School. Let me see should I be a private or lieutenant, tough decision but I finally opted for OCS at Ft Benning Georgia. I had no idea what I was getting into but 6 months later I graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant, infantry. A few months later I was sent to Vietnam as an Infantry Platoon Leader with the 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry, 9th Infantry Division. With a good deal of luck I survived intact but left the army as quickly as possible.
I used the GI Bill and attended URI as a business major. While at URI I met my 1st wife Gail a girl from Bronxville, NY. I enjoyed the academic life and I had more GI Bill credits to use so I decided to pursue a graduate degree. I was graduated from the George Washington University in Washington, DC with an MBA in International Finance.
Gail and I had 2 boys; David and Adam, both great kids now leading successful and happy lives in Bristol, RI and Boca Raton, FL respectively.
Upon graduation I took a job with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals in NYC as a financial analysis with their Int¿l Division. At the time we lived in Bronxville, NY. These were good years for Pfizer so I made a good career there. In fact it is the only company that I have ever worked for. I had assignments in Coral Gables Fl as Controller of our Latin American operation, then 3 years in Santiago, Chile as Finance Director; then back to the NY as Controller of...Expand for more
the Roerig Pharmaceutical Division. At this time I got divorced and decided to return to the Int¿l Division. Soon after the divorce I met my current wife Susan, also a Pfizer NY employee and we married in Oct 1985. Immediately following our wedding, we moved to Lima Peru where I worked as General Manager of the Pfizer Peru organization. During our 3 years in Lima we adopted a beautiful Chilean girl, Nicole our daughter. Nicole is currently in college in Augusta, Ga.
From Lima we moved directly to Karachi, Pakistan where I worked as Managing Director of the Pfizer Pakistan Organization. This was during the Gulf War and as you can imagine it was quite an experience but as usual we had a good time. We stayed in Karachi for 4 years then returned to NYC where I worked as the Director of Administration for the Latin America Division. At the time we lived in North Stamford, Conn. This lasted for less than 1 year before I was offered an assignment in Sao Paulo, Brazil as President of the Latin America Food Science Division. We lived in Brazil for 3 years before Pfizer sold the Food Science Division and I was let go by the new owners in 1996.
From Brail we moved to Skillman, NJ and I worked part time as a consultant for Deloitte and Touche and my wife worked as a Pharmaceutical sales rep in the area. About 3 years ago her job required that we relocate to Augusta, Ga. This was actually part of our long range plan to retire in the south. We are both fully retired now and our home in Augusta is on the market, we want to move to our condo in Pawley¿s Island, SC and focus on improving our golf game.
All in all they have been great years with incredible experiences. Best of all we have raised 3 great kids and are in reasonably good health. I do however have very fond memories of my years at Mount Pleasant. If you want to contact me use my email address: ncprocaim.com. I do not sign on often to the Classmates web site.
