Nick's Story
Okay, most of the profiles are like one ellipsis after another but Hatfield had a good outline, so I guess I will follow his example.
We moved to Ca. in 1950 from Tenn. to Ventura ca. a place I dearly love and still have and stay in touch with great friends from their. From K-6th grade I lived in Ventura. From Casitas springs, Foster park all up and down the ave. Attended Oak view, Mill school, and May Hinning. One year in Paso Robles at Georgia Brown .Then we moved to Taft. 7th-12th.
For those that don't remember me I was an exemplary student...yeah, right! :) If it wasn't for PE & Art (which I got "A's" in) I wouldn't have got past the 9th grade. But I was a late bloomer, got my real education after high school. During school I played with the Rhythm Kings, Tempests, a Latin American from Lompoc, etc.
I left CA and went to Tennessee and started a band back there. But my worldly ways got the best of me so I came back to Taft only to find friends getting shot up and killed in Nam. That bothered me! I started studying the Bible to find out why these things were happening. Found my answers and stuck with it. I was baptized as a Christian witnesses of Jehovah on Jan. 20th 1968, Still study prophecy and chronology today also the origin of modern day customs and beliefs.
Moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1968. Worked in a grocery store and taught guitar. Started losing my hair. 1969 back in Taft, left for TX as a full time volunteer minister, worked in a grocery store to support my ministry.
1970 moved to Bakersfield, met my wife, Winona and married in '71. A good Christian girl, just out of high school, but very chaste and mature.
1972 moved to Fresno, started Comstock Sign Company and the "Now and then" band.
1974 Had baby girl, Kinley
1976 Had baby girl, Courtney
1980 moved to help out a congregation in Tulare, had a restaurant and sign company there.
1981-82 moved back to Bakersfield, started writing radio jingles and recording at KUZZ radio. Started the "Back roads band" Made good money record...Expand for more
ing jingles but not enough work in that field so I stayed in the sign biz.
1989 sold my business and moved near Nashville to help a congregation there. Business sale fell through so came back to Bakersfield.
For nine years we've traveled a lot to New York, sometimes three times a year. My youngest daughter lived in Brooklyn Heights, it was like a second home. She was there during 9/11 and saw it all! I did a lot of volunteer work at Brooklyn Bethel. Very rewarding!
In 2002 my oldest daughter had my first and only grandchild to date, Ethan Nicolas McCaa. He's my pride and joy!
Currently my wife of 40 years and myself still run a sign company and both daughters work with us. It's great!
I am still, and have always stayed with music. I recently finished a CD called "Eclectic Sounds" album, mainly to sell the lyrics. I'm not trying to be discovered as a singer, but a lyrics writer would be nice.
What prompted me to do this CD was a friend of mine does score placements in the movie industry and he asked me to write a few songs for an upcoming movie, so I did. I'm not holding my breath but we will see.
Meanwhile, I am having a good time catching up with all of you. Oh, by the way, I am currently recording a song I hope to have by "Oildarado" called "25 Hill". It's a Rockabilly tune. A spoof on the infamous 2 bit hill and a guy that has a fetish about racing around it. Bob Foster would be the guy!
P.S. As of 4/15/10 finished 25 hill and is available on line, Its doing well in Taft. My sister Gail who is always willing to help me with my little projects has been a great aid in this venture. (I love you Gail) They are currently filming a movie their in Taft called 25 hill with Corbin Bernsten who took a copy for the movie.
5/23/11 We realesed our new blues single "Chattaboy" in time for riverbend in Tennessee. It will be realeased to our webb site in a week or two. comstocksongs.biz.
Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it! So drop in and say "Hi"!
