Nicholas's Story
Life
I enlisted in the United States Navy under the Cache Program several months prior to finishing high school. Within weeks of graduating from RUHS in 1972, I was off to boot camp in San Diego. You might say that it was in the Navy that things slowly started coming together for me. The first & best thing the Navy did for me, was to rescue me from the most dysfunctional family in Redundant Beach!
Once I was free of the negative influences of the Flynn family, I was able to blossom within the Navy. I made a career in the service and traveled all over the world. I retired at the rate of Senior Chief Petty Officer in June, 93 after 21 years on active duty.
Using my G.I. Bill benefits, I attended UCLA where I earned my BSEE degree in '97. In September 2017 I assumed a new position with NEOTech. in Chatsworth CA as a Quality Assurance Engineer.
I've lived in Thousand Oaks, CA since November 1989, with my wife Jane, whom I met while on a port visit to Sydney, Australia. In fact I've now ...Expand for more
lived in T.O. longer then any other place in my life. That includes Kearny NJ and Redondo Beach CA. Along the way we've had two children ; Jack(27) and Eliza(25).
Summer of '11 the kids and I attended a big Flynn family reunion in Glasgow Scotland! Sadly Jane wasn't able to make it.
August '13 My daughter Eliza and I returned to Scotland to hike the 95-mile West Highland Way. It was an experience we'll both never forget.
October '20 Jane and I celebrated our 33rd Anniversary!
In May 2017, Jane and I had a two-week adventure in Australia. We stayed several days in Port Douglas where we went snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. We also spent several days in Brisbane, Darwin, and Sydney.
September 2019, Jane and I were off to Australia yet again where we attended Jane's big Family Reunion in Canberra. Had a great time hanging out with the entire Ridgeway gang!
I'm 70 and still working. No plans to retire anytime soon. Though my Navy days are long over, the adventure still continues!
