Nick's Story

Life After mucking about at WSU for a year I ended up in Oly for the summer, then I got a job working for a bank up in Bellevue. That was fun for about 3.5 years, at which point I decided it was time to go back to school (not really sure why). I got my AA at Cascadia CC in Bothell, then transferred up to WWU for summer 2002. I've been up here ever since. In 99 I met a gal I thought I would marry (didn't turn out that way 2.5 years later), and in 2000 I was diagnosed with cancer. So far it's now over 7 years since it went away. All in all I'd say my life has been pretty decent. I'm not the same person that I was back in high school by any means - too many life changing events in the meantime. But I think I'm a much better person for it. Workplace After coming back from WSU I had to get a job, so I picked up a dishwashing gig at the OC&GC. Stupid job. king there nobody in the kitchen wore gloves and the dishwashers were in charge of making salads and deserts. We weren't asked to get food handler's permits. Aside from the management the people who worked there were great. I also picked up a job at Maaco doing some delivery and detailing work. Probably my favorite job that didn't require much thought. Plus the owners were cool. After that I needed a job where I could earn enough to move out of my parents house, so I took some Novell classes up in Seattle and met a guy who was looking for an assistant. A couple months later I was a "PC Support Technician". Basically I was a network administrator getting helpdesk pay, but that was fine. I liked the job. 6 months after hiring me they drove off my boss and I started to get a bitter taste from that, especially since I was the only computer support for 130 employees in about ten locations from Bellingham to Tacoma. They eventually hired a new boss for me, and that worked out well until he went on vacation two years later and I realized that he wasn't very good at PC troubles. Network he was great, but PC not so much. So then I left. Now I'm working for the Home4Investment real estate team as one of the agents helping buyers.
