Nicholas's Story

I attended Kindergarden, Elementary School and Middle School in LV through 8th grade (1952-1960). Had an older Brother, Richard (Dick) and we lived on Overlook Road and was confirmed at St Johns of Lattintown in 1959. LV and Lattingtown mentioned in the book by Nelson DeMille "Gold Coast" and follow-up Gate House and book Locust Valley, by Gail Harrison and Amy Driscoll. I moved from Locust Valley, LI, NY in 1960 to Connecticut and if I had stayed in LV would have graduated with the class of 1964 from LVHS. I then attended Fishburne Military School, Waynesboro, VA for 4 HS years (my fathers alma matter as well). All 4 years were good years and I made many friends on the Rifle Team, Hudgins Rifles Drill Team and the electric music groups, the Contrails. I lived on the 3rd stoop my Rat year, then, second floor for two years, and then the 1st Floor, BC room, with Bill Drake and Edwardo Lange. Many fond memories to this day. Looking forward to the 1964 50th Class reunion. I missed the 45th due to prostate Cancer. Was at the 40th with Woody Ensign and many more. Will be at the 50th reunion in May. Then, WVU for 4 years: was on the Rifle Team for 3 years and played in a folk group (The Prior Five/New Middle) - performed a concert at the Mountainlair and we received a standing ovation for playing Foggy Mountain BReakdown - Ray Ketchum on Banjo, with Ed Bowes on Guitar, me on Guitar, Blake Boggess vocals and Ed Jaynes on Bass (Real bass). Blake and I went to a Bluegrass festival to see the Seldom Scene - great concert in Cumberland, MD. Iwas also in ROTC at WVU and was commissioned in Dec 1968 and was orders to Vietnam. Got that postponed a year and was in VIetnam in 70-71, Quang Tri Province, I Corps. Then, the US Army & Vietnam (MACV Team 19 as an Army Intelligence Phoenix Advisor, Captain) for 3 years, then American U for an MBA in Finance. I worked in NYC briefly, then back to Washington DC, where I have been for most of my adult life. My two kids were born in St Louis 85 & 87 (so they are now 19 & 17). Ive been married for 31 years to the former Faith Noel Bishop, who attended Wakefield HS in Arlington, VA. and attended George Mason and graduated from Maryville Univ...Expand for more
ersity, Missouri, while living there in the mid-1980's. Ive come into contact with Bruce Buehre and Dana Converse over the years, and recently Clarice Latterman and my former neighbor, Esther and younger brother Jack Drury. I enjoyed going to the LVHS 40th (10-9-04) and visiting the Grenville Baker Boys Club, my home away from home after school, 1955-1960! I finally got my own pool table a couple of years back. It was sad to see the Memorial Marker for the former LV Leader Editor in front of the Boys Club for Eddie Hay Wycoff, but it was a wonderfully inscribed Memorial. I had prostate cancer and surgery to remove - and am now "cancer free." I never really believe that one is cancer free - once one gets it...but, here's hoping for some more longevity. My mom (Anne) and stepfather (Parker) are living in Jacksonville, FLA. Mom turned 100 this March (2014). Her older sister lived to 101. Haymarket, Va Written/Updated: April 2014. I retired with over 35 years with the US Govt as a Federal Bank Examiner, ending my career at FHFA, the regulator of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I also worked for Freddie Mac for two years as an Audit Manager. I received my DBA in March of 2013 and have been teaching full time in the Business Department of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV since August 2010. My schooling was at LV school system from K-8th grade. Then 4 years at Fishburne Military School, Waynesboro, VA (FMS). WVU and ROTC, serving with the Military Quaung Tri District, DIOCC, District Intelligence and & Operations Coordination Center, Phoenix Program (now declassified). Also was in Chicago during the Chicago 7 Conspiracy Trials at Ft. Sheridan, Ill, as a young 2lt doing background investigations for security clearances. After Vietnam, I used the GI BIll to study for my MBA in Finance and just recently completed by DBA in International Business and Finance at the Swiss Management Center; returning to Switzerland, where I lived the Summer of 1961 when my Dad was studying for his PhD in Economics through the World Bank in Geneva. Best wishes to all who may read this and please don't hesitate to email me with stories or contact information. Thanks, Nick(y) Conger
