Nicole's Story
Life
Hey everybody, I am a SENIOR this year at NHS and lovin' it - well, most of it. I am a memebr of Link Crew, Key Club, the Echoes newspaper staff and I currently intern at the Newberg Graphic Newspaper. I applied to the University of Oregon where I hope to study journalism.
Favorite quote: "Rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read." - Frank Zappa
Hobbies: reading, writing, shopping, playing clarinet, painting, overseeing the pranking of coworkers, quadding, traveling and lately, sleeping.
Family: Stepdad Matt, mom Lori, stepbrother Daniel and sister Abi - and that's just the beginning.
Sports teams: I'm not really into sports, but I have to say GO TIGERS!
Education: Newberg High School class of 2007. But the best education I have received comes from the people I interact with at school and on the job.
Pride and joy: My clarinet.
First job: interning at the Newberg Graphic
Life goal: to survive the final months of high school and to write something truly amazing.
Worst quality: procrastination
Best quality: persistence
Favorite food: Chinese food, Mexican food, soup and seafood. My weakness is chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.
Pet peeve: First, people who fail to see the reality of a situation. Second, being a mu...Expand for more
sician, I cannot stand bad singers or off-key whistling. So if you can't do it, don't even try.
Favorite place to visit: NYC! You've got big city excitement, shopping and cheesy tourist stuff all rolled up into one amazing package. However, I also love going into Portland, especially southeast Portland.
School
Favorite teachers EVER:
Elementary school: I remember that Mrs. Staley, my first grade teacher at Llewellyn, had this awesome dramatic play area in her classroom and every month it would be something different. One month it was the African savanna, the next it would be the store, then a hospital. It was so fun to play in there!
Middle School: Mr. Canaday, my eighth grade science teacher. He had this obsession with Reeses... And it was totally funny how he made fun of other teachers in the school. I learned so much that year.
High School: This one's a tie! Mr. Anderson is my favorite Canadian. He teaches advanced human bio at NHS and is so unbelievably funny. And he knows a lot about music - I was not expecting him to quiz me on the meanings of the metaphors in "American Pie"
And to Mr. Tanner: DFD!
Workplace
Ummm...work is...work.
I intern at the Newberg Graphic, the newspaper for the enormous city of Newberg, Oregon.
I talk smack to my coworkers and play pranks on them.
But boy it's fun.
