Nikki's Story
After THS I attended the University of Detroit (A.B.) and the University of Michigan (M.Ed.). Married in 1970 to Bill Westberg, we had two daughters. I taught math in South Redford at Marshall Jr High (8 yrs) and Thurston night school (2 yrs). After our second daughter was born, I left formal teaching until Barb Riehl enticed me back to teaching at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. After UM-D, I substituted in Farmington and also taught math in the workplace for a company there. That position led me to the Southfield Career Center where I began as a math tutor and retired as Program Coordinator for our Resource Center, a position I loved! and skills, to teach them how to get a job, and to be there for them in the difficult times was extremely satisfying. My first husband died of cancer in 2000. I remarried in 2003 to Bill Black, a widower/friend of over 25 years. (Judy Horner Hornai calls me a "bill" collector!). As a blended family, we have two married daughters and two married sons who live in four different states, making a total of 8 sons and daughters, 6 grandchildren, 7 grand-horses, 4 grand-dogs, 4 grand-cats, and many places to visit! We love retirement! The flexibility allows us to be of service in many ways. Believing every bit helps, Bill and I do what we can to help make our world a better place for all.
