nolan's Story
I grew up in Modesto, Ca. Modesto was a farming community. My brother and I did the Mc Henry cruise on Sat. nights where the movie was made. Tomatoes covered the streets in summer from being spilled by trucks and I hated the smell of tomatoes. Gallo winery was about four block from our house for ten yearsand the wine smell was so strong , I said I would never tast wine. We moved to a small ranch with all the farm animals we could have. That was the best time of my years of growing up. I had the fastest horse in our neighborhood. A very fast donkey (Gennie, female cross of horse and donkey) Loved hunting and fishing. Picked all the fruit I could ever want. Dad sold the ranch and his farming share croping tractor and equipment, we moved to Anderson. It was so hot here I couldn't stand it. to which I traveled to every weekend I could to Modesto. I wonder if anybody remembers my black 1959 chevy 2 door hardtop with baby moon hub caps that I drove to school ? It had a good radio ,6 by9 speakers front and back and cherry bomb muffler. I remember a special girl (long dark hair and pretty)at school that I talked to and told her if I didn't have a girl friend she would be the one. That has been to many years ago and I don't remember her name. I moved to Modesto after graduation , got married, we had three children. We moved from Modesto to Oregon , to Florida and back to Modesto. We split and I remarried twice and split. I have 14 grandchildren and what a blast they are. I finally bought a house in Anderson in 97 that I drove past every school day. I have worked construction and mechanics most of my life and work for a large local pool contractor for many years. I feel at home here and love my Anderson home town.
