Norma J.'s Story

Wow! There is just not enough space here to put down on paper the challenges of trials and errors that life has brought to me since 1951 when I graduated...as I am sure all of you have had too....Had I of been able to look into my future back then, I would of probably run and hid under the bed and never came out...Even though it has been a roller coaster ride the entire journey with a lot of joy, sorrow and tears, new places and new friends all rolled into one, I am not complaining at all as it has made a much stronger person and brought me closer to GOD....and I am at peace with my life now. I have such fond memories of my childhood friends and growing up in Quimby..., I have been married, divorced and widowed along with moving 43 times (mostly as an adult) and living in 7 different states.....but through each one I learned that GOD was always there like the Footprints in the Sand and HE made me stronger in the process and in turn it made me more caring and understanding in reaching out to others. I have 2 children from my 1st marriage, 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren living in Iowa and North Carolina along with a gal who has become like a daughter to me here in Oklahoma...she has 2 grown sons that call me Grandma Norma too. I worked for almost 40 yrs in the clerical field in several states, owned 3 different businesses.,...now retired and seem to be busier than when I was working full time....I am active in my church, have volunteered with Hospice and the Grief Support as well as I had a card ministry for 7 yrs that I make them on my computer and send to friends and family for all occasions especially when they lose a loved one...still love to cook and do a lot of baking for others...have a great love of flowers that I inherited from both of...Expand for more
my parents and have a lot of them in every new place I move to.. As we have all found out, accidents can happen with no warning that can change our lives completely..we do not know what tomorrow brings.......none of us are immune to them...In 1997 I was a passenger in a car accident that resulted me with a permanent whip lash.....in 2002 my husband was killed in a 3 semi truck accident here in Oklahoma and in 2007 I tripped and fell in my home, resulting in a crushed left shoulder and broke my arm in 2 places.... requiring surgery with an artificial shoulder and a rod down my arm, causing me to lose partial use of my left arm....we have 2 choices in life when trauma comes into our lives..."to be better or to be bitter" and I chose being better and I am truly grateful that I am still able to cook, bake, attend church and drive in Pauls Valley for all of my own needs.....and if I need to go out of town, I have a lot of friends I can go with. When I was younger I never really cared for indoor pets..oh sure my kids had both indoor and outdoor ones but now as I have gotten older I have had a Boston Terrier for 9 yrs, and a Shih Tzu for 7 1/2 yrs of which I just lost Angel in April to "congestive heart failure"....they become like children to us as they are just loyal loving companions and we feel a deep loss when they are gone...I now have an older Shih Tzu once again to fill the deep void that Angel left in my life. Life is good to all us even with the trials and errors as that is what makes life interesting........and as long as we remember that GOD is our co-pilot and that HE is leading the way....we will successfully make it to the end and as my Pastor once told me "we are in the "last quarter of our lives:"...I jokingly told him he did not need to remind me..
