Vickie A's Story

Life (INFORMATION AS OF 16 November 2020)I am married, 52 years, and living in Jasper, Fl. I am about to embark on another adventure in my life called "RETIREMENT"!!! OMG!! For the third time! I can't believe I am getting this OLD!! Where is the fountain of youth when you need it. I have a son ( 51) and a daughter (50) and 3 grandsons (16 yrs, 29 yrs, and 28yrs) and a granddaughter (29 yrs) and a Great Granddaughter (5 yrs). I spent 20+ years in the Air Force traveling to Alaska (Fairbanks and Shemya Is.), Michigan (Upper Peninsula), Mississippi (Biloxi/Gulfport), Virginia (Newport News/Hampton), Florida (Ft. Walton Beach/Jasper), Saudi Arabia. I know I did not graduate from East Atlanta High and for that I have had deep unrelinting regret. I feel the same as I did when I left home for the first time. Excited but missing family. That is the way that I look at alot of my friends from East Atlanta. You were like family. I know I wasn't a great looking guy, my parents were not into fashion but rather practicality. The closest thing to in style clothes were hand me downs from my Uncles. I was embarrassed and hurt by this and of course the remarks that were made. Because of this I quit school to go to work so I could buy clothes that were in style. But I had to make a choice, I did, for better or worse. I lost alot of my friends but gained alittle of my pride back. Oh well, enough for now. As of 24 January 2021, I will retire from the Florida Department of Corrections for the third time and start a new life somewhere,...Expand for more
not sure where. Maybe it is spending time at home with family to await the final resting place. School You know I really miss playing backyard whiffle ball, street football, and basketball at the Park and at School with my friends of Cecile Ave and East Atlanta High, Tony, Dale, Phil, Robert, and the rest. We had alot of good times and went through some very sad times. I always felt very close to the Parker Family, Tony, Dale, Wayne. But we just slowly drifted apart and lost contact. For that I am really sorry. Workplace After skipping around from job to job for about 8 years I finally decided that I needed more discipline in my life so I joined the Air Force. I enjoyed it so much I stayed 20 years til they said it was time to go. I then went to work for the Department of Corrections in Florida, where I have worked for about 13 years. I enjoy my work and I have learned and seen alot in the last 41 years. I have met alot of new friends and enjoyed where I have been. I wish I could have done a better job of keeping up with my friends over the years. Military This is kind of a hard one to talk about. This is a very emotional subject for me. I love my country and I put my life on the line to keep her free from oppression but it seems to coming more from within now. This is a proud and prosperous country and we need to take care of her. Everyone should stop and remember what it would be like if it were not for the Military. No great visible awards but alot of personal gratification for doing something good for others!
