More about Norman:"Retired Pacific Hand......looking to stay alive until age 87; still trying to help correct the terrible nuclear legacy of America's deliberate misuse of Marshallese people and their islands as atomic testing subject...Expand for more
s. Our blatant disregard for the islands' inhabitants health and welfare is one this era's most inhumane acts by the USA military/industrial complex. What under scores our criminality in this matter is the on-going lack of adequate medical diagnosis and treatment for the irradiated victims who are currently afflicted by radiation caused maladies and congenital defects in their children .The 150 million dollars provided under the Compact of Free Association for the Marshallese Government is grossly inadequate to cope with their on-going problems .The story of the " Down Winders " has never been told in a manner which would promote a positive American response. Our inaction in this matter ranks as one of those " Wounded Knee "incidents which reap great shame on our country. For 55,000 Marshallese the future is clouded with fear and anxiety. Can and will we help rectify a most heinous national tragedy? That is an on going question. The struggle for justice goes on. Hopefully, President Obama will take action in 2013 to provide funding for nuclear victims living without hope.".
