Norman's Story

Ah, what the heck, here's my story if anyone what's to remember me, a lot of you and I went to Calimesa elementry school before we went to Yucaipa Jr/Sr School. Remember High school started at 7:10 am and Junior high started at 8:45 am. Having two older brothers on campus helped keep me from being pantsed at school. You know the inauguration to the campus. I was a pretty good student until High School and the teachers had experienced my two older brothers I don't know of any problems or details with either of the two but I think they figured I was going to be a trouble maker as they were in some parts of their high school gang (back then it was a group of friends) activities possibly. Mr. Kirk, a 7th and 8th grade, both a english and history teacher had taken me out into the hallway of the music building and threw me around for a while for being a class interruptive clown. I'd like to see that ole boy now and thank him. Mr. Brown, the Vice Principal, would always tell me to tuck my shirt in as he's "say my on campus". I was kicked out of Algbra for asking Susan Strong to go to a football game with me and she sent back a nasty gram intercepted by MR. Martin and delivered to Mr. Brown. I was kicked out of Alegbra and lost interest in school except the no homework classes, you know, gym, autoshop, wood shop and best of all LUNCH TIME. I almost didn't graduate because I lent my research paper to Ken Burros to copy and it got turned in late. But the counseler stepped in, Mrs. Lamkie and I graduated as the last guy of the class because some chick wanted to set next to a friend and a seat was skipped. So I have one thing to account for, I was last. Grand night I spent with a long time friend Luann Blank. After I graduated I went into the Navy. Didn't like it so I got out. Couldn't find a job for a long time because the government told everyone they better start hiring women and minorities or they would loose government support and contracts. preference. I guess I could have disquised myself a female but I wasn't into that. Got a job at ROHR aircraft plant and worked there a couple of years, got laid off but that didn't stop me from getting married. Met my wife on a blind date to help her forget the guy she just broke up with, I think it was a class member. I got suckered in by her and my aunt. When making our vowes, she said unlawful wedded husband and I said what when the guy asked me but they still said we were married. Moved down to Indio where she was from and worked for the Coachella water district for 9 months. Didn't make much money but it was something. A fellow veteran I served with in Vietnam looked me up and got me a job where he was employed. Worked at Goldstone for a couple years on the antenna hydralic drive system until another fellow veteran I met while working there left and got a job with the local phone company (Contenintal Telephone of California which later became CONTEL) I guess to modernize the name. He got me an application and got the job as a teletype maintenance technician so I guess you can say I moved on to the phone company with the assistance of a fellow veteran. We do take care of one another. CONTEL merged with GTE in '91 but it took 5 yrs for California to okay the merger. Went to work in Kentucky for awhile for my daughter to finish High School then I was to go onto Florida home base of informatin technology once Kentucky got into the system. Well, I never had to move to Florida because while I was in Kentucky, the work I did in Victorville wasn't being done and the manager asked everyone why and when she found out that I had been sent to Kentucky, I recieved a promotion and was brought back here in California. All together I worked there for 25 yrs and became disabled due to a brain tumor, besides additonal problems as a result of my pertiapation in Vietnam. Now I take care of my grandson and do whatever I want to, that is, if my wife says it's okay. Ouch!
