Olivia's Story

Life I will be 67 this year and I am still going strong. I am a special education teacher and I love my job. I finally feel like education has caught up with student need. I am going to start avocating for a program that will meet the needs of students who fall in what I call the gray area. They don't qualify for Life Skills or for Resource service. We need to meet the needs of these students and that is going to take some lobbing to make it happen. I have 3 wonderful children, a boy and 2 girls, and I have been married to Jim for 47 years. I almost lost him December 20, 2006 and December the 25, 2008 but God intervened and he is doing a lot better. We spent all of the holidays in the hospital again this past year. My Chritmas present was Jim making it out of the CAT Lab alive. We have been in 4 hospitals since December the 25. Jim had retired in 1995 for health reasons. It is a good thing I got a better paying job. We have 7 grandchildren (3 boys and 4 girls). The oldest granddaughter is turning 19 and graduated last year, our oldest grandson graduated this year, and the youngest grandson turned 4. He is a ring-tailed-tooter, lots of personality. It is great being a grandparent. I have had many blessing. In 1988 I was in a wheel chair and no...Expand for more
t expected to walk again but the doctors were wrong. I had 23 years of camping ministry and I worked In Tarrant Baptist Asso. WMU as Girls In Action Director and Mission Friends Director with some wonderful people. Then in 1990 I went back to college and got my certification to teach children with special needs. It took me seven years because I worked full time as a para in Behavior Modification Class. We also had all our children in college at the same time. They worked hard for their education and I am very proud of them. Bret is an youth pastor, Rana works for Safe House with batter women and children, and Beth is now a full time mom who gave up her career to stay home. Her degree was in Theater Arts. Life is an adventure and even though I have been averaging 2 to 3 surgeries a year for the past 4 years God has given me the strength to keep going and going. I feel like the energizer bunny sometimes. I always say it is not what happens to you that counts but how you choose to deal with it. Right now I am facing at least three more surgeries. One I am hoping to avoid but two for sure. I can still say life is sweet, and God has been good to me. The moment I gave my life to Him my whole outlook on life changed. Through Him all things are possible.
