Olivia's Story
Life
Since leaving Lower Merion, I have had a significant life change. I attended Mount Vernon Junior College with anticipation of attending American University for their communications department. However, I completed my two years and found the environment at American to be an unsuitable fit regardless of the fact that I loved being in Washington D.C. I then came back to this area and received my BA at Temple from their Radio, TV, and Film department. As fate would have it, I did not take a job in that field. s a Systems Analyst doing Software Configuration Management. Talk about a change in direction! However, the biggest shift in my life has been in the commuity where I live. For the last 15 years, I have been very involved in the Democrat party in Norristown, PA, where I live with my husband and son. I was approached by the local party and asked to run for borough council. So in 1997, I ran for Council-at-Large for Norristown Borough but lost by a very small margin. I ran again in 1999 and won a four year term and now serve as Councilmember of Norristown's 2nd District, one of two Democrats and three women on council. It is an exciting, and busy life and I have had the opportunity to meet some of the "movers and shakers" in Pennsylvania politics.
