Oscar's Story

Life After 26 wonderful years in the Air Force, I finally retired in July 2007 at the Pentagon; I am now flying in the airlines hauling cargo all over the world and still searching for the next golf course that "I gotta play"; married my wife in '82 (her name is Robin and she grew up in Littleton); one child (Matthew--the absolute joy of my life), born Feb '98; I've been to every continent (yes, that includes Antarctica) and while there I've had a beer (okay maybe more than one) and I've hit a golf ball--not bad for a kid from Widefield; I miss you all and think of you often; life is good! We live in Virginia, but we're hoping to retire to Myrtle Beach eventually. Drop me an e-mail (xf4wizzo at aol dot com) or come on by--let's have a beer!! Military Been all over! Started at Navigator Training at Mather AFB, CA outside of Sacramento (now closed), then to George AFB, CA just north of San Bernardino (now closed), next was Homestead AFB, FL just south of Miami (now closed), then to Seymour Johnson AFB, NC just east of Raleigh. Then I went to Pilot Training at Wil...Expand for more
liams AFB, AZ just east of Phoenix (now closed), then Altus AFB, OK (not really near anything), then McChord AFB, WA just south of Tacoma, then overseas to Osan AB, Korea (south of Seoul); back to McChord AFB, WA, then to Port Hueneme, CA in between Malibu and Santa Barbara, where I worked on a Navy base, then back to McChord (yes, we like the Pacific Northwest a lot) and I retired at the Pentagon in 2007. I've flown to every continent and was fortunate to really experience the culture. Did the Desert Storm thing, the Somalia thing, the Haiti thing, the Panama thing, the war on terror thing and the Iraq thing. I put in 26 years and really loved the military. I got to fly fighters and cargo jets for most of my career (over 7,000 total flying hours) and thoroughly enjoyed it; made wonderful friends and the fact that some of you can protest our presence around the world (whether our country is at peace or at war) is proof that my service to you paid off--yes, I did my part to protect your families and your freedoms--and I would do it all over again in a heart-beat!
