Pam's Story

I consider myself to be from Boulder Creek, California. I really connected to the San Lorenzo Valley's beauty and the people when we moved there in 1969. I had finally found "home". I went to San Lorenzo Valley High School from 1969-1973. I tried out going to Cabrillo Junior College in Aptos, CA (Anthropology/Archaeology, Photography, Geology), but lost interest, dropped out and ended up joining the U.S. Army, with some encouragement :). I joined with Sharon Worthington and was placed in the field of Personnel Management. Sharon was placed in another field, but we both ended up in Germany. Sharon went to Berlin, I was sent at first to Heidelberg, then Schwetzingen. My last job was at Borland, a now defunct software develpment company, starting as an Administrative Assistant, then jumped to Executive Assistant, supporting more than just the V.P. but 178 people althogether. Previously I worked at The Santa Cruz Operation and before that for the Santa Cruz County Parks Department at Seacliff Park. My interests include family, pets, walking and swimming. I used to make stained glass pieces, but can no longer use my hands to make them. I'm looking for other hobbies I can do. The music I like is still Rock 'n Roll, southern rock and Motown of the late 60's and 70's, although I have broadened my horizons in the music area of listening. I rarely go to the movies. I wait until they come around to TV. I love good sci-fi, mysteries and comedy shows. I watch far too much TV! One of my favorite quotes is:"Keep it simple and real" - mine "Remember to be a success in life, not just at your job. At the end of your life, you won't be remembered for how you earned your money, but for how you spent your time." "Friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly." "I believe cats to be spirits come to earth. A cat, I am sure, could walk on a cloud without coming through" - Jules Verne "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today", Today is a gift. That's why we call it "The Present". - Babatude Olatuizi "Love comforteth Like sunshine After Rain" - William Shakespeare "The real voyage of Discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." - Marcel Proust "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want" - author unknown "The more I know, the higher I fly. The higher I fly, the more I see. The more I see, the less I know. The less I know, the more I'm free!" - Anonymous "Life is eternal and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight." - Rossier Worthington Raymond "The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in tragedy and injustice. What the caterpillar calls the end of...Expand for more
the world, the master calls a butterfly." - Richard Back "Live Simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly." - author unknown (This one is one of my very favorites.) Here's another one of my very favorites that makes you stop and think: "What if you slept, and what if, in your sleep you dreamed? And what if, in your dream, you went to heaven and there plucked a strange and beautiful flower? And what if, when you awoke, you had the flower in your hand? What then?" - author unknown Once upon a time I was foot-loose and fancy free. I partied far too much in high school, then the ARMY, and in my 20's until I finally realized I was getting older and needed to grow up and be more responsible. I started being responsible when I was about 34 (late bloomer). After that I moved up the chain in two different software corporations until I had to leave (on my own) in March 2004. I had endometriosis and ovarian cancer I was diagnosed with in Feb. 2003, had surgery and two chemos, then tried to work for 7 months afterwards until I literally thought I was going t drop dead. The chemos/steroids changed my life drastically to say the least, but if we don't stay flexible enough to change, we'll never get through this life. After I had to quit my job, I moved to Prescott, AZ (over 5,400 feet high in the mountains) on March 31st, 2004 to join my parents who had moved here in 2002. Luckily I have the V.A. to cover my health issues or I wouldn't be able to afford health insurance with Social Security Disability. I had 10 animals but I'm down to 7 - 1 cat passed away so I have 6 now & 2 of my 3 dogs have passed so I have 1 elder dog. I married for the first time in 2009, but my husband passed away 5 days short of our 1 year anniversary. He was 4 days shy of turning 52, and I was 13 days shy of turning 55. We had known each other for about 2 years. Unfortunately it wouldn't have lasted anyway due to he was an alcoholic and refused to seek help. But to have to play God and unplug someone from life-support took a toll on me. I 'll never marry again. I'm back on the computer (actually a Kindle a friend gave me since my computer fried in Sept. 2015), after my mother passed away from Alzheimer's Dementia on April 13th, 2016 at the age of 90 1/2. It's been tough but I'm blessed to have had her in my life for as long as I did. I found my dad dead on Fathers Day in 2020, (he was 92 going on 93 on August 1st), and had been deceased for 6 weeks after a fall that pierced his head and brain, and bled out because he was on blood thinners.. It's been absolute, unexplainable hell trying to jump through all of Arizona's hoops. The nightmare continues.... I hope everyone who reads this is doing well and is healthy. Time really does fly by....
