Pam's Story
Life
BOI! Went to nursing school at Galveston College. Worked at UTMB for almost 15 years (laid off). Stayed in Galveston until my Grandmother passed away. My son Eric and I moved to San Antonio with a childhood friend who is also a nurse. Met my wonderful husband online, moved to New Jersey, got married and had a beautiful baby girl, MaryEllen! Working as a Parish Nurse and loving every minute of it!
School
Went to Kindergarten and first grade at Sacred Heart. My brothers and I lived on 14th street with our grandparents just after our mother died. My Dad remarried and moved us to St. Patrick's. I was there for second grade and hated it. I felt like I had no friends. We moved again and I did third through sixth grades at Our Lady of Guadalupe. I liked it there....especially Sr. Joan, Mrs. Prets and Mrs. Urbani. Went to O'Connell for 6th through 12th. Loved Coach Stig and Mrs. T!
College
Started at Galveston College right out of high school. Did a couple of semesters and then got caught up in work and motherhood. Went back after a few years....got into the nursing program at GC and took micro up at College of the Mainland so I could get done with everything faster. sh Nurse certification course at Felician College in Lodi, NJ. Working on getting into a fast track BSN/MSN program here in NJ....most likely at Seton Hall.
Workplace
Started out babysitting for the Briscoe's when I was in high school. Worked as a room service operator then hostess at the Hotel Galvez the summer between 11th and 12th grades. After high school, I worked as a work study student in the financial aid office at Galveston College. I picked up a few odd jobs along the way...Girl Friday at Galveston Air Center....pizza cook and waitress at Pizza Inn. Then got on at UTMB first as a Unit Clerk, then as I progressed in nursing school I moved up to Hospital Technical Assistant then graduate nurse, then RN. Started out in the Surgical ICU then went to step down and eventually wound up in the outpatient clinics as a float nurse. Settled into Neurology/Neurosurgery/Psych until I got laid off after 14 1/2 years of service. Did some temp work for a nursing agency, private duty and a home health agency until my Grandma passed away, then moved to San Antonio and worked the Cardiac & Vascular Surgical floor at Baptist Hospital. Moved up to NJ to be married and worked per diem in Hoboken, Secaucus and Kearny until I fell into my dream job of being a Parish Nurse!
