Pamela's Story

Life I left West Hill Collegiate to study nursing. When I graduated in 1965, I went to work in a hospital but later took a course in Public Health Nursing at U of T. Then I was employed at VON both in Toronto and in Durham Region. In 1995, I decided to leave nursing and study for the ministry. I graduated with an M.Div. degree in 2001. I have been working part-time and as a volunteer for the United Church of Canada ever since. I am hoping to be considered for ordination in 2008. I presently live in Stirling, ON. I have a son and daughter. I am married for a second time to Doug. We have been married for 28 years. l of Nursing. I almost didn't graduate with my class because I was so ill with a bout of mono. Determined to stay with my class, I went back after several weeks to finish my ob/gyn rotation. I borrowed heavily from notes from Linda Jewell and Vaddie Benson. After graduation, I worked at old Mt. Sinai until the next fall when I entered U of T's PHN program. After graduating there, I went to work for the VON in East York.In 1969,I had surgery and so went to work part-time at Scar. Gen. Hosp. afterward until my son, Glen was born. Today, he is a GM engineer and living in St. Louis, Mo. After he was several months old, we moved to Oshawa, where I worked PT in the VON until my daughter Lisa was born. Today, Lisa works in the auto industry and lives in Port Perry.I ended my career in nursing in 1996, after being downsized 3 times. In 1995, I entered Emmanuel College, U of T,and studied for my M. Div. in 2001. I am not yet ordained but still active in the United Church of Can., preaching as a lay supply and taking communion to shut-ins in Stirling and Belleville. We moved away from big Oshawa to Stirling in 2002 and could not be happier.
