Pamela's Story

I tried this on my "smart phone", but my fingers are too big and I hit the wrong thing when I was done and it deleted it LOL. I was at the home twice 73-74 and 76 to 77 where I stayed until I graduated. I remember trying out for the quartet and my mother saying "if you get it, you should stay". Whether I made it up in my mind or not, my memory is that I did get it, but was going home and of course mother was never to know. I moved out within the first month of getting home so I would not get sent back again. I remember so many of the names here, it is odd, but the people I don't. sad. So much of my time there is simply forgotten. Since I left in 1977, I met my husband in 1978 and we married. We have been married for almost 33 years (good grief that sounds like a ling time!) We have one son, Jeremy, he is the light of our life. He was married for 4 years and divorced. We lived in Atlanta for 30 years and moved to a VERY small town in SW GA called Brinson 2.5 years ago. I went to college and got my BSN in nursing in '92 and did home health for 17 years (all positions-opening an agency to field nurse). When we moved to Brinson I went to work for a nursing home doing MDS Coordinator which is basically the financial person for the home, doing assessments of all residents which brings in the dollars. I love it! 14 miles away and working with a great group of women who care about the residents we house. The reason 14 miles away i...Expand for more
s so good is that in Atlanta, 14 miles can take an hour to get to and I was taking 1-2 hours coming and going to get to work! In our nursing home, we recently started a vent unit that has been a challenge, but one resident came in on a vent and left walking without it. Some one said today in one of our morning meetings that we have had our share of miracles....and really? we have. It makes it all worthwhile. You will all have to forgive me, this site has challenged me trying to navigate it and respond to comments and requests. Like I said, the smart phone just is not (for me) the device to use, thus I am on my PC. I am about to go and look at Judy Barnett's (whose name I remember) pics of the home. I looked at some and only the school and the designed brick walls that went from where we ate oranges to somewhere were familiar. I had a very good friend named Tammy who helped me right before I left in 1977. I cannot remember if it was Hyte (who is on this site), but she was originally from Minnesota. We went through the clothing room (do you remember?), picked me out a long skirt for my dc date and :) jeans to wear under it to change at the airport (which I did). My bad! Oh the evil thoughts we had back then...or evil to some, normal to others....I would love to hear from anyone. My name at the home was Pam Chapman. I wasn't very exciting or popular...just tried to stay below the radar screen once I figured out what was what...
