Pamela's Story

Life After graduating, I spent two weeks at the Cape and met my great grandmother's sister Mae and her husband Chester Doe. Giving Gram Fox a picture of her sister was an awesome moment. They hadn't seen each other since childhood. I worked the remainder of the summer of 1976 at Crandall Park in Tolland. I was enrolled at University of Connecticut but never went. I ended up living in Topsham, Maine with my grandparents. In 1977 I worked as a bilingual teacher's aid for third graders in Willimatic. I went to MCC and worked at Caldors in Manchester, both part-time. My plans to acquire an associates degree literaly came to a crashing halt when a car ran a stop sign and hit me head on...I ended up with a broken leg, cracked ribs, and chipped front teeth. My injuries healed. It was the second time breaking my leg. It was horrible having a broken leg my senior year in high school and again 2 years later. I do remember how good kids were to me. In 1980, I worked as an dental assistant in Willimantic and also as a nurses aid at Crestfield Nursing home in Vernon. I got married in 1981, actually twice. Pat and I were married at a civil ceremoney on Mother's Day, then two months later. Our church wedding was held at St.George Episcopal Church in Bolton, CT. We celebrated our 27th anniversary July 11, 2008. Our daughter, Amy is 26. She lives at home with us in Manchester, CT. She is a tremendous help to us and her family. My brother Brent Cunningham joined the AirForce shortly after graduating in 1973. He lives in Northampton, MA. October 07, he broke his back and is recuperating at the Veterans hospital. Leslie( 1975) lives in Enfield and works for Tolland County as a lawyer, at the Rockville Court. My younger sister Lynne is married with two children she is an school nurse. My mother became a widow in 1991. My Dad, who we all sorely miss died at home very suddenly after suffering an anuerysm. The Cunningham Family home was sold in 2005 when my Mom became ill with dementia. In January 1992 I was a co-leader for the prayer ministry at Trinity Covenant Church in Manchester. I gave up my active position in early 2006 but remain a member. My daughter Amy and I also worked with several others establishing a newsletter for MANA ( Manchester Area Network for AIDS) The newletter flourished and now the Hartford Chapter has taken over the task. Pat's mother still lives on Swamp Road i...Expand for more
n Coventry. His father died last November after a long courageous fight with cancer. Richard ( 1974) became a proud grandfather two years ago. Ray works at Manchester Memorial Hospital, loves sports, and coaches. His family lives in Columbia, CT. Ray works at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Janine is also a proud grandmother. She has two wonderful grandsons. She lives in Coventry with her husband and helps care for my mother-in-law. Michelle and her family live in North Carolina. The past four years Pat has been fighting a bone marrow disease, called aplastic anemia. It is an incurable disease except for a stem cell transplant; this could be fatal too. However, if a stem cell transplant is ever necessary his younger sister Michele is a 100% match. We appreciate prayers for his health. Please remember how important is giving blood all the many people we all love: at some time may need this life saving (blood) to keep them alive. Pat still loves to fish, we have 5 trophy bass and a huge trout hanging on the walls. My six pound bass we ended up eating but I do have a nice picture of it. Pat continues to play in his band (drums) Most recently Tempus Fugit played at a benefit for a 10-year old with brain cancer. There was a tremendous turn out. The crowd had fun! Even though this was event was because of a devistating illness effecting such a young boy, the goodness of others shone brightly, giving precious hope to everyone touched by his illness. I have been working on my writing skills for a while and taken online courses. I have done research for others and been mentioned in the preface of a book written about the Longfellow family(ancestors). I wrote for a few magazines, newsletters, and more .....It would be nice to be published more often, that was a goal but for now all my efforts have been toward health issues disregarding any professional aspirations. Stem cell research has pushed me in world of politics...plus issues relating to United States healthcare. I stumbled upon too many issues. I write letters! I went to the class of 1975 reunion as a guest of my sister Leslie. It was a wonderful time. How great it was to visit with friends. I saw Dan Kissane for the last time, it was a memorable conversation. A true friend who many of us miss. I hope our class can celebrate together in the near future. I am very thankful I grew up in a small town like Coventry.
