Pamela's Story

Life I'm married with children - a boy and a girl. My son just graduated from Purdue and my daughter is at Marquette. My husband and I own and operate two restaurant/bar/nightclubs in Crystal Lake and in Palatine. The business keeps you young and very busy. Both of our children help out at work too. My son has his Chef's degree from Kendall College and just received his degree from Purdue in Hospitality Management and is now working with us full time. We both have our brothers and sisters working with us and it works out great as we can work and catch up on family issues. We work hard - we're not rich, but we sure do have a great time. School I've studied music (actually I majored in opera) - never got a job in that field. Then I went back to school in Colorado and studied philosophy, but by the 300 level classes, I became too dumb and dropped out - hay, it was the early 70's. I returned home when I turned 30 and went back to school to study electrical engineering (I wanted to set up the acoustics for large bands in auditoriums), but I met my husband...Expand for more
during this time and settled down at Honeywell in Arlington Heights. After having my babies, I got into the whole Montessori education and taught music at my children's school in Mundelein. This was better known as my "dinosaur" period. Did you know that there really never was a brontosaurus? It was a mistake, some boob put a camarasaus's head on a diplocus's body and well .... My husband bought a bar during this period called Durty Nellie's and soon I needed to help him with the accounting and inventory control. This starts my "beer geek" period. So here I am today, sampling a delicious double IPA called Great Divide's Herecules Double IPA, which accounts for my ramblings. You can always email me if you need to know which beer to pair with your kabobs on the grill or your creme brulee. (A hoppy American IPA if the kabobs are steak and a rich porter - ahhh Fuller's London Porter for that dessert). Our new bar has 63 taps and we carry over a hundred different beers at a time. My dreams for the future - I want to start brewing in my garage and then who knows?
