Pamela's Story

I only attended from about 1962 to 1963, in 5th grade at Francis Scott Key Elementary, had several little friends, who were so kind to me, when my Mother died suddenly on January 4th, 1963, I had to move away to live with my Grandparents in Alabama. I took my goldfish to the classroom the day I had to leave, and so many of my little friends gave me gifts - I still have them - small wooden, painted Chinese Dolls, and other small items, that were so endearing. I missed my classroom, and my friends terribly, and had a hard time adjusting that first year in Alabama. I did eventually make many friends, and now am always the Chairman of every class reunion for Foley High, Class of 1970. I only have 2 pictures of some of the girls who came to my 9th birhday party, on 14th Street, before I moved to 18th Avenue. The school on 18h Avenue had burned down, so we were bussed over to Francis...Expand for more
Scott Key. Wish I could remember NAMES of those wonderful friends! This is terrible! If anyone remembers a skinny, dirty blond/brown, stringy haired girl with a few freckles, who moved away in the middle of school year, Jan 1963, that was me. LOL. I just wanted to drop in and say how much I loved and missed those classmates. My friends were Chinese, black, and white - we were a wonderful diverse group! Good memories of FSK Elementary! Does anyone remember we had a substitute teacher once, who berated our TERRIBLE penmanship - explaining to us that her daughter could not use her arms (or didn't have hands/ born without them (?) and had to hold a pencil with her toes - she told us the daughter had better penmanship than any of us - well that kind of stuck in my mind, and I DID actually develop decent handwriting at a later date. Do not remember our teacher's name, either.
