Pamela's Story
Life
I am currently teaching philosophy at a regional state university in Kentucky. After high school, I went to college and received a dual bachelors degree, one in philosophy and one in psychology (neurophysiology). I then went to graduate school in philosophy. During my time there I was briefly recruited to work for the Department of State doing intelligence and research for the Bureau of Soviet Affairs (you remember the Soviets don't you??). Anyway, that was really cool--lots of neat spy info, etc. watched the fall of the Berlin Wall from inside the State department. I was invited to the White House and met President Bush (the first) in the Rose Garden. I was also invited to the 72nd anniversary of the great October Revolution at the Soviet Embassy and met with the Soviet ambassador and many other interesting people.
That was a really exciting time in my life. After that I returned to graduate school and finished my phd in political philosophy. I now teach in both the Honors program and philosophy programs here. I am sometimes invited to give presentations or have public debates, which I love doing.
I will be spending the summer teaching in Paris and I am bringing my daughters with me. We are looking forward to the experience.
I met my husband in undergraduate school. He is from Phelps New York and we lived together for several years except for the time I was in Washington. After returning to graduate school, we got married in...Expand for more
Cazenovia in 1990 at St James Church. We held the reception at the Lincklaen House. It was Christmastime so it was beautiful. But it is a terrible time to have an anniversary--no one wants to do anything the day after Christmas, including, perhaps even especially me.
Anyway, in 1994 I gave birth to my first beautiful red-headed duaghter, Ellan. She is now 11 and is doing well in middle school. Unbelievable to have a child the age that you remember being, isn't it?
In 1996, I gave birth to my second daughter, Sarah, who also has red hair. I mention this because, as you may remember I do not have red hair and neither does my husband. So it is unusual that we would have two red heads. We have no further children.
We also have dogs, a Westie and a Great Dane.
My parents and most of my brothers and sisters as well as many nieces and nephews remain in Caz. In fact my niece just graduated last year and is now at SU. I have two more nieces remaining in Caz. Last summer I spent a week at the Brewster Inn (that my fathers family used to own many years ago). That was lovely. I am in Caz basically every summer for a week or so, and I wish that I still lived there quite often. But the winters here are much nicer, I must admit (it's January 20th and it's 65 degrees). Kentucky is a beautiful state and we live right next to a huge lake and on the edge of the Daniel Boone national forest. It's nice, but it's not New York. I do miss it.
