Patty's Story
Life
After a ten year sabbatical I returned to college and graduated with a degree in Physics from Cal State Fullerton. This led to an exciting career in software. After five years at Rockwell I became a consultant and was able to work on a variety of commercial and aerospace programs, including the sonar system mentioned in The Hunt for Red October. Two other systems were a blood analysis machine, and a fingerprint ID system used throughout the world. The latter position allowed me to visit Switzerland and to take an extensive trip through the UK, where I found it weird to see my own name (Gordon) on stained glass windows. I was married to Bob Gordon for 20 years. After working overtime for many years we were able to retire in 2000. We moved to the Paradise area where our life was divided between golfing and caring for our 4.5 acres of forested land and our two Corgi dogs, Lance and Razzmatazz. I also write stories, usually about life in Paradise. My son Brent (Hickman), although handicapped by an accident in 1987, is now living a full life in southern California. We are working on his book, "The Coma Cure", about life after a brain injury. Life is a constant blessing for us. I hope you too are blessed by life.
UPDATE: In 2004 I got bored with golfing all the time and entered the real estate rush. I am now a Century 21 Select Realty agent in Paradise, California. I love helping people find the right home in this beautiful area!
UPDATE 2005: After 20 years of marriage my husband Bob decided to go off to find a "Miss Better". It was a devastating blow but I want others to know that even in trials we can rely on Christ to direct our lives to a glorious outcome. I thank God for all my blessings.
UPDATE 2006: Had a great year with my sister. Spent St. Patrick's Day in NYC. Then took a trip to the UK and Ireland. We drove all over and even saw the Isle of Skye. Just purchased a home but I'm grateful to my sister for sharing her home with me while the divorce was going on. I'm still in OC almost every month to visit my son Brent and attend to his business needs (he's handicapped). Oh, changed my name totally to Patricia Grace (Patty G.) McKee; new life, new name.
UPDATE 2007: Having fun getting my house set up. Real estate is very slow but I still enjoy helping people find a home in our beautiful area. Looking forward to a mission trip this year with our church. Started dating again. Eeek! Scary at this age but hope springs eternal and I'm a bit wiser regarding relationships now.
UPDATE 2008: Scary financial times but still having a blast. My sister and I like to travel and party. Highlight of my travels this year was a trip to visit friends in Albuquerque. Nice area. Had my first bike run with the Black Bishops MC thanks to my friend Darrell...whoo-hoo! Way fun. Couldn't get a mission trip since my church seems to only have men's trips. Going to try a different approach in 2009.
UPDATE 2010: Have had a great time the past two years travelling a little and enjoying great health and the beautiful area where I live. The goal of every trip I make is to see people I love so I guess it's nice that my nephew moved to Germany. He lives in the picturesque town of Mainz and I sure love it there. Still hanging on in real estate and this last year was good to me. Still a golf addict but my game has suffered due to the increase in my real estate. Funny how that works! I was just able to rejoin the country club I used to belong to and the Platinum Club so I can also golf more in SoCal when I go down every month. Looking forward to 2011, hopefully ...Expand for more
a lower handicap and that ever elusive mission trip. Have promised my son Brent to refocus myself on the book too. Have recently written a couple of new chapters. Not enough hours in my day even though I usually only sleep 6 of them!
UPDATE 2013: Wow! Can't believe it's been three years since I wrote. I had another amazing year although real estate is limping along. Just got back from Israel. I didn't really want to go to Israel but God asked me to. Haha! I like to travel to Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, you know, those lush green places. So in 2012 I got this voice in my head that said, you need to go with the church to Israel. Being me, I argued the point with God and said I'd much prefer to go on a mission trip, maybe to Macedonia. That nagging feeling didn't go away. I went to the pre-trip meetings thinking I'd get excited but no, not really. I finally put out one of my famous fleeces, the ones that convince even my Christian friends that I'm crazy. "Lord, if this isn't some crazy voice in my head and You are really telling me to go to Israel, then please have someone come up and ask me to go for them, not for me, because you know I'll do things for others that I won't do for myself." Guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but was, when a few months later a gal came up to me and began begging me to go to Israel because she wanted a roommate she knew and liked and was terrified of getting a roommate that would drive her crazy. I was especially stunned because she wasn't even at the meetings and I had no idea she was going. It seems she went before and didn't need any pre-trip meeting. So I went and had a blast, found out what all the fuss is about and would go every few years if I had the funds. As to all my older posts here, I quit the country club due to inactivity, joined the little 9 hole course out my back door and STILL never seem to have time for golf. I'm the most a-political person I know but still got roped into being the President of the local board of Realtors next year. Both my dogs are gone so I rescued Wiley, a big 10 year old Australian Sheep-dog mix (looks like a Corgi with legs) that was about to be put down. He's such a sweet dog. Travels like a dream and kind to people and other animals alike. Gave up dating because it wastes way too much of my time that could be spent being productive or traveling. Also too disappointing when things don't work out. I have so much fun with my family and when I've tried to plug someone else into my life it doesn't seem to work. Looking forward to the holidays (my favorite time and please don't say Christmas to me until Thanksgiving is over). And then there's the promise of 2014. I can hardly wait.
UPDATE 2016 Still doing real estate in Paradise, CA. Still traveling, usually with my sister. Life is wonderful. My son Brent and I am finally nearing the completion of his part in the book of his life story. It's a double sided book with my life as his mother on one side and his walk through a coma and recovery on the flip side. Brent wants to hit the road and talk to kids in school about it. I never count out Brent's goals because even though he's very brain injured, he has a direct line to God and seems to get what he asks for. Just put in a reservation for the upcoming Tesla Model 3 and hope it comes though and that I'm patient enough to wait for it. Just updated my profile pic. It was time. This one is from my birthday in 2015. My brother is my favorite photographer and always takes flattering pics of me. Hope to see my fellow classmates at the BHS reunion in October!
