Gary's Story
Lived a wild and crazy young adulthood. Got bored with that. Stayed interested in sports, played one year of college football, decided I wanted to keep my knees and quit playing. Was a carpenter/framer for almost five years. Got knocked out of that from an auto accident in 1989. Took up karate in 1982 with Rick DeOcampo and Brinkerhoff bros. Earned a black belt in 1992. Wanted to settle down by 27 but didn't find the right one till I was 33. Went back to college in '91, took my time and worked full-time. Met Patricia in '96, got married in '98, graduated in '99. We had Anna in 2000, moved to Sac area in'02, had Jacob late '02. Began studying bible truths in '02 with Jehovah's Witnesses. Figured out why we are here, what life is for and what we should be doing. Also why the world is in the condition it is now and who is responsible. What God has planned for our future, like no sickness, everlasting life on earth, no aging or death, resurrection of dead family members, the rebuilding of the earth to a paradise conditi...Expand for more
on worldwide. It's all in the bible.
By 2003 I had a new career change into the tile installation field. By 2006 I started my own company Halestone Tile.
Now my kids are in 3rd and kindergarten and are also being raised in the truth. It's a real advantage to them, now they won't necessarily have to make the kind of mistake I made growing up having a better idea of what is right and wrong.
Last October I had a terrible accident falling through a roof on a construction project I was volunteering at in between tile jobs. I fell 13ft. to the concrete below. I broke my hip socked and four ribs. It was a miracle I wasn't paralyzed or killed. The doctor wouldn't do anything for the ribs and didn't need to for the hip, because it didn't displace. No surgery.
After about three months and lots of physical therapy I started to do jobs again. It's been four months now and I've done four jobs. I'm getting stronger but I'll give myself a year before I really evaluate how permanent my injuries are. That's about everything up to now.
