Patricia's Story

Enjoying the retirement life at nearly 68!! Life is good, health is great, retirement is awesome - God is great! I've been married to Red (Robert) Bourdage since 1982. I have a 42-yr-old son from previous marriage, Jason Sturiale, who lives in Las Vegas, NV. Red and I live on an acre in Haymarket, VA with our two dogs. Below is a listing of where I've been etc. History: Attended Blessed Sacrament thru 8th grade, then Holy Trinity HS for 2 years. 1968 - Then we moved to Bath, England and I ( and younger sister Ronnie) attended a British school for a year. 1969-70 = Then boarded at and graduated from Lakenheath American High School, on an American Air Force Base on the eastern side of England. 1970-73 - Following that, did 2 yrs at U of Maryland at McGraw Kaserne, Munich, Germany. My mother passed away in 1971. Came back to states in 1972, worked for Sears for a couple of years. Dad remarried in 1973. 1974-80 - I met Paul Sturiale in 1973, was introduced to him as Trish (one of many names my sisters called me) and I decided that was a good name and since then have been call Trish not Patti. I married Paul in 1974 and moved to Albuquerque, NM. In 1976, joined the US Navy, became a Yeoman, was assigned to Pentagon. In 1978, got out, had my son, got divorced. Went to work for Raytheon/SASC at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center as a word processor/editor. 1980-90 - 1980 moved to San Diego, California to be close to best friend Michelle (who I met in boot camp). At her wedding met my future husband, Red (Robert) Bourdage - who I married in 1982. Used the GI bill to complete my degree at National University, graduated with Bachelor of Business Administration in 1983. Worked for Tracor as an editor 1981-85. 1985-90, worked as editor and proposal specialist for Global Analytics which was bought by McDonnel Douglas. 1990-2000 we moved to Washington state, lived in Puyallup. Worked at HDR Engineering as marketing coordinator & editor til 94. Ecology & Environment til 97. Joined CH2M HILL in 1998. 2000-05- Moved to Camas, Washington (near Portland, OR) in 2000. I transferred with CH2M HILL and Red went to work for GST/then Time-Warner Telecom, then VA Hospital. Step-mom Rosalie passed away in Dec 2003 after battle with Pancreatic cancer. Sept/Oct I spent a couple of months with her and Dad (working from our local CH2M HILL office) so was able to have some quality time with her. Dad and I visited English and Dutch family in Sept 2004. Dad came for extended visit in Washington state Nov/Dec/Jan. 20...Expand for more
05 - 2010 - Red and I moved to DC metropolitan area early 2005, bought a home in Haymarket, VA and Dad moved in with us in June. Red got a job with DOD. Sue and John moved up from Savannah, Georgia, and settled about 2 hours south of DC, so all 4 Biemans girls were close together once again and enjoyed some good sister times. Dad, Ronnie, and I went to Holland in June 2010. At 93 Dad was happy to see his 95- and 80-year old sisters - the last remaining siblings (who have since passed). Dad's health had been waning and in Oct 2010 he passed away in my arms. 2011- present. Red retired in July 2011 after 40 years combined Navy/Federal service. February 2012, Red and I celebrated our 30th anniversary in Las Vegas with friends! Red and I bought an RV in 2013 and have had some great trips in it, including a 6-week trip in 2014 to WV, NC, and VA eastern shore and Michigan. Looking forward to more trips as he has fun fishing and I read, walk and relax. in 2017 my best friend Michelle passed away, leaving her disabled husband of 38 years alone with no one to care for him. My Son Jason (40 and single) dropped everything to move to Las Vegas to take care of him. I visit every 3-4 months as Jason and I are now Guardians! I retired from CH2M HILL in April 2018, after 20 years! Haven't missed the work, do miss the people. I like that I am free to make my own choices about what I want to do or not to do!! FAITH - I left most things Catholic behind in my 20s. Eventually found my way back to Christ around 2000 and have a nice small non-denominational Church family here in Haymarket. WORK - April 2018 I celebrated 20 years with CH2MHILL by retiring! I held many roles: publications team leader, proposal manager and editor. Last was with the Environmental Business Group and led proposals and project documents. I'd been teleworking since 2009, and loved it. A project took me to Armenia in August 2013 - what an interesting country and history! Between 2015 and 2017, I worked in the in the country of Georgia in Eastern Europe, over 9 visits ranging from 3 weeks to 3 months - made lasting friendships! I am not sorry to leave the long hours and stress behind!! I am now free to choose what I want to do :-) The BIEMANS SISTERS. Sister Sue and John (Ihrig) are in Stuarts Draft, VA; Sue is a retired nurse. Sister Terri and Jeffrey (Kominers) are in Martha's Vineyard, MA; Terri is a retired school teacher. Sister Ronnie and Greg (Pearson) are in Silver Spring, MD; Ronnie has a business as a counselor. Life is good :-)
