Patricia's Story
Life
Married my husband in 1975.Worked for Motorola in S.Florida and Texas facilities as an inspector,groupleader,I.E.analyst, and finally senior document analyst
and then I retired in 1998 after
almost 26 years of service. My husband, also a Motorola employee,
retired in 2001. We have one daughter, single and loving it. She graduated from Florida State U.
in 1990 and is living in Texas about 2 miles from us. We enjoy traveling this beautiful country
and have gone to Alaska (2000)for 2 weeks. The cruise and landtour of Alaska was in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary and my birthday. We get back to Newark
and visit family and friends as often as we can.
Workplace
I started working for Krogers'on Mt.Vernon Road during my senior year in high school and continued until late 65. In May of 66 I joined the USAF. Spent 6 weeks in San Antonio during 100+ temps.
By mid July I reported to my duty station at McChord AFB in Tacoma, Wa. I was a air transportation specialist. Among my duties were to process the military in order to
board the aircraft. Many of the flights were heading for Vietnam.
I also handled many families going to dut...Expand for more
y stations in Alaska,Korea,
and Japan. I even helped a former
neighbor and (1962)Newark graduate,Bill Blackburn and his wife Vi board a flight to Alaska.
In 1973 I started with Motorola in Plantation, Fl. Holding many different positions, learning as I went. There I met my future husband
and began my 26 years with Motorola. My career lead me to Boynton Beach, Fl. and later to Ft.Worth, Tx.
In 1998 all companies were cutting back and an opportunity presented it self that I couldn't pass up. I had earned my medical benefits, retirement, and 1.5 years in bonus pay that I decided to retire from work and just relax. Was I ever wrong,I kept busy around the house,
doing for myself and our daughter
that I often wonder how I had time to work and take care of household
chores all those years. I knew all those time management classes I took would pay off some how. Now my husband has also retired from Motorola and we spent 6 months traveling and enjoying time together. Even through he has returned to work until the real retirement happens, I have decided
to take it easy and enjoy what the future will bring. Work is work, but life is to be enjoyed.
