Patricia's Story

Life Hi all! I'm interested to learn what happened to all of you! As for me, I've been happily married for 27 years. I have two children, one dog and one cat. I graduated from college at 37 years old. OK, don't say it... at least I finally did it! Currently I am employed doing case work with the developmentally disabled population. I'd love to hear from you! College Do you really care? I went to College of DuPage. Then Western Illinois University, flunked out, (well, dropped out before I could flunk out) went to U of I, Chicago during the evenings for fricken ever, then stopped the insanity after getting married. About 10 years later, I finally went back to National Louis University and completed an excellerated program to finally....I say finally, complete my undergraduates degree. Workplace Let me make it clear. I really should have been born with a silver spoon in my mouth because I really don't like working. However, that said, I've worked to some capacity since I was 16. The job I liked the least was Dairy Queen in Darien. Though my summer at the Tivoli Theater in Downers Grove was pretty bad too. I finally got a 'real' job...Expand for more
in retailing when I got into the new Turn Style on Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove. I liked it there but decided that wouldn't be my career. Since then, I don't recall all the jobs I had. I tried a stint with various computer companies, but can you say 'computer illiterate'? Needless to say, I had to check something else out. After having children, I took 6 years off to rear them. During that time off, I volunteered for PACES, helped a friend's busines, substitute taught and worked part time at a card shop. I also finished my undergraduates degree. I finally found my current line of work when I stumbled into a residential provider for the developmentally disabled. After trying three different jobs at that location, I found my current job with my current company. I'm looking forward to the day that I don't have to work anymore. Do you think that'll ever happen with all of us baby boomers trying to collect for retirement. I figure by the time we get there we'll get about $10.00/mo. I guess I'll be working my entire life. Just put on my headstone "She should have been born rich!" I'd love to hear from all of you. Talk to me. Patricia
