Patricia's Story
Life
I'm married to Don (September 1982) and we have 2 girls, Amanda (born in June 1985) and Hilary (July 1990). I graduated from Seattle University in 1975 in Community Services but was unable to find anything in that field. I've worked with Land Surveying and Engineering firms since September 1977 and my main job now is Permit Processing (Plats, Subdivisions, etc.) and Office Manager. I love spending any time I have with my kids, I was very involved in the girls' grade school (Queen of Angels) and still continue to volunteer on a limited basis. I was involved in Amanda's Youth Group in our Parish until she graduated high school in 2003. In 2000 I went with 15 kids from the Youth Group (including Amanda, of course) and 5 other adults to France and Italy to attend World Youth Day activities in Rome. Other than my marriage and kids being born, that HAS to be the highlight of my life! Hilary is now in high school and working with a group of kids to go to World Youth Day 2005 to meet our new Pope in Cologne, Germany. I help organize those work parties and physically help with some of them too. I'm not as able to help like I did when Amanda went in 2000 because I'm thick into planning Amanda's wedding scheduled for June 25, 2005. We're all working on that project! In fact, she and her future husband are also going on the World Youth Day trip and have "applied" to get their marriage blessed by the Pope! Exciting stuff all at once!
Workplace
When I finished college, I was not able to find a position in my field (Community Services/Social Work) so I eventually found a job in my hometown (Port Angeles) with an insurance company (Syd Tozier & Associates). I worked there for two years and then went to Clark & Associates, as secre...Expand for more
tary with the possibility of getting into drafting (never happened). It was a Land Surveying, Engineering and Environmental Planning company. The company was sold a little over five years later and became Northwestern Territories, Inc. (NTI), I stayed on. After I had been there almost 19 years, I went to Clark Land Office (same owner I started with) in Sequim at the end of April 1996. I started out as secretary, went into permit processing technician and am now the office manager, although I still do the secretarial and permit processing. I enjoy my work, even though it does get very frustrating working with governmental agencies at times ...
So, it's now 2012 and with the economy the way it is, land division and property development has dropped drastically! My position at Clark Land Office in Sequim was reduced to part time. Although I loved the time off, my bills didn't like the reduce in funds, so I was forced to look for other work - I didn't want to, I loved my job and the people I worked with - but after a year and a half of traveling to Sequim to work part-time, I had to do something. In June of 2011, I started full time working for Olympic Stationers (remember that store???) doing the commercial ordering (office/school supplies, etc.). Although I do miss my former employer and coworkers, I do enjoy my job at Olympic Stationers (quite a change, having never worked in retail before ...) and I work with great people! Come and see me! If you haven't been in the store recently (remember when it was the only place to get school supplies??), you will be blown away! It isn't just a stationery store anymore! It's in the building that Reidel's was in on Front Street (ok - we're "old-timers" so we all remember Reidel's ...).
