Patricia's Story

Life Dec 2006 - I am nearly complete with my first semester of teaching high school Algebra to special education inclusion kids. Yep. I am a special education teacher now. I co-teach freshman (ugh) algebra and I'm having a great time. I think being around these youngsters is aging me faster then I'd like, but it also keeps me "in the know" so I will hopefully understand my own children when they become teenagers. All I know is teaching is MUCH easier than being a Drill Sergeant. I have a lot more time for myself and my family. Thank you God. :) 31 July 2006 - Okay, so I thought that I'd drop off the classmates.com planet and start my new life, but somehow I've ended up back here. Why? Because out of the blue Sandra Blair got hold of me and informed me of the Class of '87's reunion plans. I can't accept the whole reunion idea as I am a person who lives in the "now" and not in the "yesterday", but I have to admit my interest had been piqued. Anway, here I am updating photos and info so that IF I don't make it out to the reunion next year, y'all will have already seen how fat I've gotten and learned all my dirty little secrets. :) Oh, I was hired to teach special edcuation at a local high school here. I will be an algebra teacher working side-by-side with a regular ed teacher. I can't wait. May 6, 2006 - I'm home, finally. This will probably be the last time I edit this as the novelty has worn off. As of March 2006, I finished my 12 years in the US Army and returned home to my huband and kids after being separated for the last two years. Home is San Angelo, TX where my husband works as a contract instructor for the Army at Goodfellow AFB. He loves his job and he's great at it, I think. :) His students may have a different opinion! I am currently working on an alternative teachering certification program. I want to teach special education at the elementary level and eventually get into school administration. I love teaching and children fascinate and inspire me. I completed my military duties as a Drill Sergeant stationed at the Defense L...Expand for more
anguage Institute in Monterey, CA. I was there for over three years working in the most challenging, yet rewarding job that I've ever had. I was picked up for promotion to E-7 twice but I turned them down so that I could leave the military and join my family in Texas. It was a very difficult decision, but it was very easy at the same time. I am honored to have been selected twice. I really enjoyed my military experience. However, my family is everything to me and they mean more to me than anything on this earth. My husband, Danny, and I have been married 9 years this month. We have two beautiful children, Rebecca (almost 10 years) and Ryan (7 years). He is retired Army with just over 20 years active duty service. Although I have dropped most of my military mentality and relaxed quite a bit, he's still got it in his blood and I think he always will. Once a Soldier, always a Soldier. We are still a military family and are proud to have had the opportunity to serve our great country. God bless our troops. Please remember to always keep the troops and their families in your prayers. They can't do it without your continuous support. Military The military has been good for me. I originally joined to earn college money since I put myself through school. I stayed to be an NCO. I have benefited more from my military career than from anything else that I experienced prior to my joining. Some of the things that I've gotten out of the Army: I completed my BA in liberal arts. I got married to my best friend. We created two beautiful kids. We own our own home. I learned Arabic and have a top secret security clearance. I've gotten to travel all over the country and Germany. I've made some of the closest friends I've ever had in my life; I would lay my life down for them. I got to realize one of my personal dreams: I became a drill sergeant. The army helped me to develop a backbone, leadership skills, personnel management, teaching skills, and gave me direction in my life. I thank God for leading me down this path. I owe everything I have to Him. HOOAH.
