Patrick's Story
Life
Garland, TX resident for 45 years. Two children (boys) from 1st marriage, 2 (one each) from 2nd marriage and 3 (2 girls, 1 boy) from 3rd (and final!) marriage. Seven grandchildren. Worked Ill Div Hwys 63-66, US Navy Seabees in 67-68 (RI, MS, and RVN), Ill Div Hwys 69-70, IRS 71-95; Retired in 1995. General contractor - residential renovation; Retired in 2011. School
Went to Eugene Field (STL) K, then Rott Elementary (Kirkwood, MO) 1-4, Warren G. Harding (ESTL) 5/6, Clark Jr. High (7-9) and then East St. Louis Senior High. With the exception of a few good friends and a few good teachers, there was nothing I liked about going to high school. Never regretted leaving the area.
Workplace
Went to work right out of high school (1963) for the Illinois Division of Highways. Left for military sevice in 1967 (Seabees in RVN). Came back in 1969 through 1971 and then went to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Kansas City, MO. After assignments in Aberdeen, SD and Wichita, KS, I landed in the Dallas TX area (1975). ailed for extended periods to many cities in the US, including Jacksonville FL, Cincinnati OH, Albuquerque NM, San Francisco CA, Houston TX, Los Angeles CA, Austin TX, Denver CO, Chicago IL, Phoenix AZ, St. Louis MO, and Washington DC. Lots of travel, lots of work in mostly administrative jobs, but also occasional fun and new friends.
Military
Joined US Navy Reserve in '65. Trained at Great Lakes, IL in March '66 and assigned to USS Ely, Sheboygan, WI for short training period. Inactive until June '67 when assigned to Newport, RI. Volunteered for Seabees and trained at Davisville, RI, (Engineering Aide "A" School). Requested duty at Gulfport, MS with Mobile Construction Battalion 62. Trained at Keesler AFB Biloxi, MS and Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, NC. Deployed to Republic of Vietnam in Jan '68 just in time for Tet; ended tour Oct '68. Released from active duty in November '68. Ended enlistment in Aug '71. Engineering Aide 1st Class (E-6).
Middle daughter died at age 26 in December 2019.
