I always wanted to be a archaeologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a stupid idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a good night's sleep, big breakfast, and laughter to be able to deal with the day-to-day.
If I won $100 million, I'd give zero of it to no one, then spend the rest on myself, myself and myself.
My best friend would tell you I'm nuts, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as nuts.
In 10 years, I hope to be alive. I'm going to get there by laughing.
I had two "first jobs" at the same time The first day-job was in Carthage, where I got paid 50 cents an hour to be a do-everything-boy at Killingsworth's clothing store.
What I remember most about it is the "old" lad...Expand for more
ies that worked there (Diane Sink's and Lana Pugh's grandmother).
The second, concurrent job was at night at th 66 Drive-In Theater. The owner, Roy, had an affair with the current Fire Chief's wife, Mrs. Long, right there in the screen-office of the drive-in. Roy and his wife played bridge with the Long's. Both couples ended up getting divorced and switching spouses and getting remarried. Go figure.
4th of July picnic at Roy Mer's house when I was in Mark Twain, where I held a bottle rocket the wrong way and it shot off into my stomach.
Christmas Eve midnight services at Grace Episcopal church where you could smell an overall scent of Bourbon.
Miss Collier's drama.
Mrs. Turk's vocabulary tests.
Glidewell's barber shop. (he told me never to get tattooed like his arms were in the Navy, I still got a tattoo.)
David Martin's suicide. (I was a pall bearer)
Reber's gas station.
Hot, wool ROTC uniforms.
Major-jerk PE teacher in H.S.
Carthage City Band playing in the summer on the bandstand in Central Park
Gold fish in the fountain in Central Park
Rollerskating for the first time at the rink across from the Park stadium.
My inappropriately self-centered god mother and later Roy Mer's father's second wife.
The old section of Park Cemetery with huge granite markers.
Wondering what pep-ralley's were for.
Robert Foshay on his garage roof during a cub scout den meeting with his mother calling to him to come down as if he were a cat in a tree.
Being so bored in Carthage that I almost needed a straight jacket.
