Patrick's Story
Life
Hahahaha--now I get to tell you the story of a fateful trip and a three hour tour..no wait. Sorry. Wrong life.
The update: After high school I moved to Washington, DC and went to American Univerity. Good times were had by all except my loan balance. It did not have a good time. I promised I would never treat it that way again.
After University: I moved back home to become a car salesman. That was a bust because people who wanted to buy cars had no money and people who had money already have cars. Stupid system. The I worked for Metropolitan Security. Scary! After being underpaid, cursed at, and threatened with a handgun I quit. Who said I had no tolerance?!?
After having life threatened: I moved back to DC to break my promise to my student loan. It still hasn't forgiven me. I tried to get a masters in creative writing and become a writer. Then I found out I couldn't write well which put a real damper on things. So I decided on teaching thanks to an awesome professor named Caleen Jennings. If any of my students are reading this: you can blame Caleen for everything I have inflicted on you.
After finishing the masters: Well I got dumped and cheated on by my best friend of 2 years and girlfriend of 1. My roomate decided to...Expand for more
move and I had no job. What better time to flee the country?!?!? So I ran away to China.
In China: hmmmmmm..Well two years in China were fun and interesting. I met some wonderful people and made some friends I will keep for life. I taught at Beijing Normal University which was anything but normal as far as the rest of the world goes. However after two years there it was time to flee. Too many times students disappeared for speaking their minds, I saw people get beat within an inch of their life, and they put police informants in the school and a camera outside my apartment. All that was bad but the kicker was when they knew about the SARS outbreak 2 months before it broke to the world press and tried to cover it up. They risked my life and cause the death of at least 1000 people. That is when it is time to go look for a new country!
So I moved to Korea: I loved my first job here. Teaching in an international school was great but the boss was a little too fire happy. After one year there I took my current position as a Professor of English at Dong Seo University in Busan. In the interim I have travelled all over China, Japan, Korea and Thailand. I am walking the earth like Kane in Kung Fu and working the fat off my soul. Any questions?
