Patrick/Marie's Story

Life I am still out here in California. After being laid off in 2002, I came out here to help assist my new in-laws with moving to Vermont. Little did we know that my son Patrick was on his way. So, what was supposed to be a short 4-6 month project turned into a 5-year voyage into the Post-Production industry for film and TV. I have now returned to my roots in IT and have taken on the position of Director of Information Systems for one of the CMS ESRD Networks. The goal is to return to the East, hopefully sooner rather than later, but the roller coaster ride of the last 5 years seems to coming to an end. UPDATE: July 8 2009 Well, I am unemployed again ... 3rd time since 2002. This time I plan to start my own business and call the shots. I don't visit this site too often, but I shall endeavor to do so and keep everyone in the loop. UDPATE: July 9 2009 I have finished listening to several webinars and have taken a number of business-oriented quizes and tests. Next step is to meet with SCORE councelors and get moving! UPDATE: Sept 19 2009 Our business, FACTA Fix (factafix.com) is now launched. I have a few clients, and my goal is 1000 clients over the next 4 years. To that end, I have been engaging in a lot of networking: we are a member of the Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce, and I am President of the Simi Valley Chapter of TEAM Referral Network. UPDATE: December 20, 2009 Happy Holidays! And Happy New Year! I'm still struggling to get my business going, but I have seen a few rays of hope, so perhaps 2010 will be the year in which things finally turn around. UPDATE: 2013 Wow, too long between updates! Where to start? Well, 2010 did not work out as well as I had hoped. The economy was still very bad, and trying to get businesses to realize that marketing and sales are the places they *shouldn't* cut when revenue drops was very difficult. The owner of the house we were renting went into foreclosure, so we had to find a place to go. In October we drove to NJ to visit, during which time we stumbled across a house for rent up in Vermont. We decided it was time to head back East, and in January 2011 we packed up everything and moved 2800 miles from Sunny CA to Frigid VT. The folks we were renting from had a software business, so the plan was that I would be assisting with it. I was updating clients remotely during the month of April, and was planning to head down to NJ for Mother's day to see my folks. rned into our memories. This is one of them for me. I started a blog - you can find it if you Google "Faltorpan Patrick Ciriello". In July, I bought the software business, as the owner wanted out (and was way over her head anyway) - and so that is the primary (but insufficient) source of my current income. I am in the process of moving everything up to the next level - by January 2014, income will be better and more consistent, and will give me the chance to finally start making some headway. STORY WIZARD FLUFF I always wanted to be a astrophysicist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. I am must more of a people person, and while I still have a great interest in astronomy and space science, I would rather do what I can to help people in the here and now so that hopefully they can contribute to the betterment of our society and, eventually, make the visions of people like Gene Rodenberry and George Lucas a reality. The best way I have found to relax is to read a book. It usually doesn't matter what the subject is or the type of book. The wildest thing I ever did in school ... well, I'm afraid I never did really did anything wild. There are times when I wish I had, but I'll just have to make sure my son doesn't make the same mistake .. LOL If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a quiet office, lots of book shelf space, and someone to help me stay organized to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My hero ... well, there are lot of people that have inspired me. In my own life, my parents had the greatest influence. They taught me to be be who I am, and not to worry too much about what anyone else had to say. Growing up, this was significant, as most of the people who remember me will probably say that I was a bit of loner and did my own thing. The ability to "keep ones own counsel" is very important, and while I haven't always done so, it is the foundation of my confidence to do or become whatever I decide. Of course, others have influenced me as well; I can remember a music teacher who taught me never to use the word "can't" ... I never have. I remember a tennis instructor who told me to always stick to my guns - advice I wish I had taken more to heart later on. Historical figures such as Ben Franklin I find to be fascinating. I have a feeling that if we could derive the source of his wisdom, we'd find the answers to a lot of the problems our country faces right now. My wife and my son also inspire me, but in ways that I cannot really put into words. I may try one day.
