Patrick's Story
Do you remember the winter of '81? I had just spent another summer interning at the ad agency, and had returned to Kent state for senior year. Six feet of snow halfway through, windchill lower than fifty below. That was the year I spread out a map of Texas and started applying for jobs, because I was heartily sick of snow for awhile. After leaving Kent, I threw my three changes of clothes, my box of books and my drawing board in the back of my old Mustang, and headed towards warmth. On the way, I stopped off in Nashville and was offered a job at better money, drawing tour shirts and posters for country and rock bands, airbrushing their motorcycles and buses, and working for the likes of Hank Williams, Jr, The Doobie Brothers, John Mayer, Harley Davidson and Garth Brooks....Expand for more
Basically, I lucked out. I get to do what I want, have fun, go to concerts, work on a great computer setup at a pretty good job , wear playclothes to work, and listen to good music all day. I have somehow managed to avoid kids all these years. Radiation or alien intervention, possibly. Nobody knew where I was for the reunions, and gave up looking after a short check of the closer foreign jails, I guess.
But I've always thought of all the people I grew up with, especially the fellow kids from St. Pius, seeing them as siblings of a kind, and wondered and worried about their fortunes and fates. so - a membership in Classmates, and I have to say I've had a lot of fun with it. I wish the best for all my old friends, and nothing but a kind and rewarding walk down the Road.
