Patrick's Story

I have been working in the video and media field for the last 23 years. I am currently a member of the Kansas City Brigade coaching staff as the team video coordinator. I shoot all practices and home games and am in charge of encoding, uploading and downloading Arena Football League games and conversions to DVD and editing used to coach the team and analyze future opponents game plans. I have been with the team for 3 years since they started in Kansas City. I also work with 3 marketing research firms in MO and KS as their video conferencing and video streaming technician. I am on the technology committee of the Kansas City Jubilee Film Fest every April. I make the combined reels of short films that were selected to be shown at the festival and volunteer as the technical guru in charge of equipment needs. I am a member of the Independent Filmmakers Coalition, a group of filmmakers that meet at the Westport Coffeehouse on Wednesdays to discuss and make films. I am currently doing a documentary about a folk artist in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I also make videos for corporate, legal and educational clients and still shoot a few events. My ultimate goal is to make movies and short films to enter into festivals and eventually make movies or television programs that would be seen nat...Expand for more
ionally and internationally. I am working on a pilot for a TV series called The Collectors which would showcase a few quirky collectors of something each episode. This one is near and dear to my heart since I suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Hoarding Disorder and collect miniature German cars and Chevrolet muscle cars, bass guitars, JFK memorabilia and every kind of electronic component imaginable. I remember Mrs. Sachs telling me in Freshman English class that She appreciated my humor but that it belonged on television and not in her classroom. That may have been the best advice I ever got. I was also the film loader kid in grade school. I got to get out of class to set up the projector and spool the film because the teachers couldn't figure out how to do it. I have started playing music more frequently by sitting in as bass player with a local duo on Wednesday nights. I am also the scoutmaster of Troop 683 in Leawood where my 11 and 15 year old are in the troop. Every day is a new adventure and a new challenge. It certainly isn't an easy life but the variety of subjects and people I encounter are incredible. I hope to reach my ultimate goal of a hit movie, TV show or widely distributed short film before I'm to old, weak and blind to run a movie camera.
