Patrick's Story
Life
After finishing at ECHS, I attended IU and received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree. I also enlisted in the Indiana Army National Guard and joined the 38th Infantry Division Band as a trumpet player. In 1995 I completed my Masters Degree in Music Education at Ball State University.
I married Jill in 1986, relocated to Muncie, IN, and began my career as a public school teacher with the Union School Corporation in southern Randolph County (IN) in 1987. Our older son, Nick was born in 1992, and our younger son, Vince, in 1997.
I have enjoyed a pleasant career after 23 years at Union, and am looking forward to at least 20 more. As a general music instructor and band director, I've brought the love of music to thousands of children. Now, I teach the children of my former students. Sometimes, I feel like ...Expand for more
I'm living the script of "Mr. Holland's Opus"!
In 2003 I "retired" from the enlisted rank of Staff Sergeant, went to Officer's Basic Course, and received my commission as a Warrant Officer. Now, as the Bandmaster of the 38th Division Band, I am the Commander of my military unit. I think I'll stick with it until they kick me out (around age 62)!
I still play on my trumpet everyday at school.
I haven't kept in too much contact with my friends from high school, and that is a regret that I have. Nostalgia for the good-old band days at Central has been creeping-up on me. My memories of those years, events, and people will be cherished forever.
