Patrick's Story

Life How the heck are we all almost 40? I still feel like I'm 20, although my waistline tells me otherwise. I still have many of the images of high school (and many of you) frozen in my mind as if they were yesterday. Here's what's been happening with me since high school. I went to Siena for a year for Biochemistry-huge disaster. Loved the college (and the nightlife-a little too much) but hated my major. Transferred to SUNY Morrisville and got an A.A.S. Transferred to R.I.T and finished my Bachelor's. Worked at the Desmond Hotel upon graduation and worked on my MBA part time at SUNY Albany. After finishing my Master's I moved to Saratoga, and graduated from the "Leadership Saratoga" Program in 1996. I am currently married to my lovely wife Rebecca and have a 20 month old daughter named Isabelle. There is absolutely nothing like being a father to a little girl. Knowing I will pay a steep price for that when she becomes a teenager, I have conveniently scheduled my death for early 2015. Currently, I own three Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream franchises here in the Capital District and am very active within the community. I have enjoyed coaching little league baseball for the last 15 years, and have umpired all levels of baseball for the last 8. I had been playing in the "over 30" men's baseball league until a torn rotator cuff did me in. Probably a good thing, as I'm not nearly in the shape I used to be in. I spent 8 years as a Big Brother in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization, and was honored when they chose me Big Brother of the year in 1995. Most of my free time is spent doing board/community service work. I have just finished up two terms as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Saratoga County Convention & Tourism Bureau, and am in my fourth year on the Board for the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce. I still cook professionally on occasion, and have been one of the backstage chefs at SPAC. A pretty cool venue, as I ...Expand for more
usually get to meet the bands I cook for. Time for this is limited though, as my primary business is usually pretty busy from April-October. I have made time to get certified in SCUBA and have dove some of the best spots on earth: Maui, Key West, Bahamas, St. Lucia. I've been pretty blessed these last 20 years since graduating from LHS. I've made good, lifelong friends. I've had the opportunity to travel. I get to spend part of each year in two of the greatest cities in America; Miami and Washington D.C. I have a job that I enjoy, serving a universally loved product. I've done some public speaking on different business topics. I've received some nice honors that have boosted my ever fragile self esteem: Outstanding Phi Delta Theta Alumni in 1998, Entrepeneur of the Year in 2001 from RIT, my college alma mater. Ben & Jerry's Franchise of the Year in 2003, The Saratogian Newspaper's "20 Under 40" most influential Movers and shakers in 2004. While all these things are great, what I am most thankful for are the many opportunites I've had to serve others along the way. I've stayed young by being surrounded by "little people": the kids that come in to my store, the kids who have played on the little league teams through the years, and my store staffs which are comprised mostly of teenagers. While maturing in some areas, I have resolved not to grow up too much. This includes a lingering addiction to youthful time wasting endeavors, such as cartoons, pinball games, poor musical choices for my iPod, and a litany of sophomoric (my wife would say "moronic") humor. This dedication to all things juvenile represents a bit of a paradox, as the other BS things in life; politics, the daily news, stupid drivers etc. are turning me into somewhat of a crusty, cranky curmudgeon (translation: old fart) before my time. Feel free to drop me an email if you can help me with this, or just to say hello. It would be great to hear from you. TTFN
