Patrick's Story

Life After graduating AHS in 1982, I began my career in the Marine Corps in August 1982. I enjoyed (for the most part) my time in the Marine Corps. My career was cut short due to an injury I sustained while on active duty. I was discharged as a disabled veteran in December, 1986. I moved to southern California in January 1987 and stayed there until March 1997. I worked at a few jobs in california, mainly in the Metrology (science of measurement) field. I even had my own Metrology business for a little while. I moved to Northern Virginia in 1997 following my dad's death in january of '97. I accepted a job at a Navy Standards Laboratory and remain at the same place as of 2005. I attended Liberty University for my bachelor's degree (dual major: Church Ministries/Psychology). I attended Capital Bible Seminary and graduated with a Master's degree (Salutatorian) in 2004. I am considering a doctorate. I am married (met my wife in Seminary) with four children (Sovereignty Grace [died before birth]; Moriah Abigail[b. May 25, 2003]; Daniel Andrew [b. December 5, 2004]; Joseph Alan [b. July 21, 2006]. I serve in a small church in Frederick, MD as a preaching Elder. I also handle the education duties as well. I am currently teaching Greek Grammar and Genesis. I'll add Hebrew Grammar and some Theology classes in the fall. We live in Westminster, MD and I am currently planning a church plant there. However, as with all things, God may have other plans for us..we are surrendered to His sovereignty in our lives. College I attended Liberty University graduating with a B.S. in Church Ministries with a minor in Psychology. I graduated in 2004 from Capital Bible Seminary with a Master of Divinity. I graduated summa cum laude, second in my class by a mere .06 grade points! I enjoyed the challenges of Seminary, especially learning Greek and Hebrew. I enjoy applying the knowledge I acquired at Capital to my everyday life. One of the neatest things to happen to me while in Seminary was meeting my future wife in my Hebrew class. The most devastating thing also occurred while in Seminary--the death of our first child (prior to birth). Workplace I "worked" as a Marine for four plus years after high school. isabled veteran. I worked as a civilian in California from 1987 until 1997, mainly in the aerospace industry. I owned a Metrology Company for a while but gave it up. I am now employed in a Metrology laboratory in Northern Virginia. I have been involved in Metrology (the science of Measurement) my entire adult life and enjoy it to a certain extent. My job is simply a means to an end for me, it is not my life. I love to teach theology and language courses (fluent in both Greek and Hebrew) as well as individual books of the Bible. I preach at area churches filling their pulpits until I find a full-time ministry position. My calender is getting quite full right now. I'm not passionate about my job, I'm passionate about my family, ministry, and relationship with Jesus Christ. Military I began recruit training in August 1982 aboard Parris Island, SC. Yikes, it was hot! I graduated from boot camp in November 1982. I wasn't the best recruit nor the worst. I guess I was just about average. I was initially stationed at NAS Memphis to undergo training in Electronics. In February 1983 I was transferred to Lowry AFB in Denver, CO to be trained in Metrology (measurement science). In August 1983 I was transferred to MCAS El Toro in southern California. I remained there until I was discharged (honorably) in 1986 due to a physical disability resulting from a injury I suffered while conducting some training. I had planned to make the Marine Corps my career but, as I have experienced many times, my plans and God's plans for my life are sometimes different. The best part of being a Marine was that was the vehicle God used to introduce me to Jesus Christ. I, being raised a Catholic, knew about Jesus but I didn't know Jesus. I became a Christian on December 2, 1984 in a church in Anaheim, CA. As was true for boot camp, so also for my career in the Corps. I was neither the best nor the worst--I was simply average. I treasure my memories from the Corps. I have a greater appreciation for freedom, having lost mine for a number of years. I know that while I wasn't colorful or famous during my time in the Corps, my time did make a difference because I was able to assist in the defense of freedom for the US against enemies of freedom.
