Patrick's Story
Life
I got married to Rena Payne (she didn't go to EBHS) after dating her for 5 years in 1988. I got a Music Education Degree from WVSC in 1987 and ended up teaching music for only 3 months. I then started substituting and fell in love with teaching special ed. I went back to school and earned a master's degree in 1990. I worked in Kanawha County as a teacher for three years (until 1990). We then moved to Northern Virginia, where I have now taught special education for about 20 years. I was the county's Teacher of the Year in 1992. I also have a beautiful daughter who is 12 years old! She is extremely talented in music and art (among other things). son who is 6. He, of course, is in first grade and attends the school where I teach. He is into Pokemon and Spongebob.
Currently, we live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country (IMHO). We are surrounded by beautiful farms, with the Appalachian Mountains to our west and the Blue Ridge Mountains to our east. There are historical sites galore. Washington DC is about 70 miles away, and Baltimore MD is about 90 miles away.
In 1996, one of my older brothers, Nelson, passed away at the age of 42. My dad passed away in 1999.
The past few years, my family and I have begun to travel. So far, we have been to Disney World in Florida, and twice to Southern California. We hope to visit Ireland, the Caribbean, and Hawaii within the next few years.
