Joseph's Story
I believe I have been one of the most fortunate people to ever walk the planet. I have been blessed with good health, was born into a time and place where I had the opportunity to rise as high as my dreams and abilities could take me. (Think about those who were born 10 years before us in Europe). Being born into a family that created an environment which allowed me to enjoy my childhood and not having to cope with adult issues before I was an adult was a special blessing. I became especially aware of this when I was teaching high school and working with young people who had to deal with some profound issues in their families and life.
I've had incredible adventures, met many interesting and wonderful people, have had some amazing friends and am still raising cain at 72.
The Grateful Dead song Truckin had a line which said, "what a long strange trip it's been." I'm sure that some others of our generation as well as myself can identify with.
I had 4 marriages (the 4th has worked) 3 sons (2 which I raised as a single parent), many different jobs including construction work, teaching, bartending, writing, working with a band as a live sound engineer and driving a truck.
I went to several schools growing up in Michigan and in Florida. I spent time living with my parents and with my aunt and uncle due in part to my Mom's health issues and the fact that I was such a handful. (My wife claims that I still am.) I even went to a one room school house in the north woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
I have lived in Florida, Michigan, Utah and in Canberra (A.C.T) Australia. I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to travel to s...Expand for more
ome wonderful places including the Maya sites in southern Mexico, New Zealand (which has to be one of the world's most beautiful countries,) Tahiti, The Cook Islands, Fiji and most of the U.S. and Canada.
I am now enjoying an exciting and active lifestyle in the Rocky Mountains downhill mountain biking and skiing. I'm a retired educator having taught at the high school and college levels. What is really interesting to me is that I believe that I learned much more from my students than they ever could have learned from me. (they did have me outnumbered.) I studied Geology at the University of Utah and went to grad and post grad studies in Astronomy/Astrophysics at James Cook University in Australia.
I have 3 sons and one granddaughter. I live for adventure and am always up for a new experience; especially if there is some risk involved. I definitely have the adrenaline junkie gene and have the injuries, scars and fractures to prove it. Some of these exploits including crashes are featured on my youtube channel: GothicDownhiller. Don't worry about laughing at the crashes, most of my friends did.
. Some of my other passions in life include family, spirituality, learning new things, friends, cats, music (especially heavy metal) and seeing others being happy, fulfilling their dreams and enjoying life to the fullest.
