Patsy's Story
Life
After living in our RV for almost 6 years, we have given up the nomadic lifestyle and bought a home in Leesburg, FL. This will be a big shock as we have been able to just move on when we got bored with an area so we are hoping we are able to make the adjustment. We have enjoyed traveling from coast to coast twice in that time and making lots of shorter trips and having the ability to visit many of the National Parks and other beautiful sights here in the US. Hardest thing in the past year was losing our beloved pitbull, BJ, in April. Now I have to decide if I want to re-enter the work force after nearly 6 years of being out of the rat race. However, I fear I will be bored if I don't. Being a Wal-Mart greeter doesn't sound too bad anymore-at least it doesn't have the headaches one gets being the boss. I don't miss having to worry about personnel anymore!! Our next dream is a trip to Alaska by 2008, but we will do a cruise instead of by RV. I had to drive our 40 ft mh for the past 3 years as my husband lost his eyesight after cataract surgery. Boy was that a challenge!! However, I still believe one can do anything you set your mind to. When Lyle became ill, I got my degree as I knew I had to support our family. I spent 9 years working, taking care of him and raising a family. After he died, I fulfilled my dream of going white water rafting and went on to make...Expand for more
several trips to Co. just to do that. I remarried and became an instant Grandma at 42 and between us we have 5 kids and 14 grandkids and 2 great grandkids. Maybe that was why we hit the road!!! Life is what you make of it and I think I have made lemonade out of some lemons I was dealt. I hope the rest of you have done the same.
School
I think one of the craziest things that happened was when Dolores Schatz, Lyle, and I went to St. Peter to pick up Betty Wolling before we were due to play a ballgame. Due to the score, the 1st game was called early and they had to hold up the game till Dolores & I returned as she played shortstop and I played 1st base.
It was great growing up in a small town with the ability to go anywhere on foot or by bike and not worrying about the crazies that are threatening every child today. Everyone in town knew you and if you did something, it was reported to your parents. The eyes were everywhere!!!
Since I posted this, we have settled in quite well down south. We added a little shih-Tzu to our family and she has worked as a therapy dog. She loves people and has done well bringing smiles to a lot of people.
This fall we are planning a 6 week trip out west and figure we will drive about 12,000 miles. We will be traveling with 2 other couples and plan to see as many national parks as we can. Guess our love of travel has not left us.
