Paul's Story
Hi, You might possibly remember me as Paul Hirata, I had an older sister and brother who also went to Schaumburg H.S., Kimi & Rick Hirata. I don't actually keep in touch with anyone from high school. However, I do get these emails, and decided to respond. Basically, I'm living a quiet life in Hanover Park, IL. I moved back to the same house three years ago, I had left 43 years earlier, I'm divorced, and have been retired for ten years, and have become a functional recluse. One thing that I still have in common with being 18, is after all these years I'm still writing poetry. Here's a poem I finished today June 1, 2021:
I See Us
Some dream of visions, I long for perspective,
to see my relationship within the collective.
Knowing that I, only exists in context,
doesn’t imply, that life has to be a contest.
No need to fight, just ‘cause we have different eyes,
come let us reason, without our ma...Expand for more
sks and without lies.
Where together we can try to see better,
being true to our spirit, while living with the letter.
I’m still looking for contact not just motion,
when my lifelong goal, is connection not commotion.
I can view thousands of stars, or be with you,
I choose the people I love, and to see love as new.
The more I see you, the bigger WE become,
it’s been a long time since, first dreamt the world as one.
Old isn’t always wrong, when it’s good and best,
that we care for each other, and acknowledge our mess.
Hard to measure the hurt that I have caused,
through the violation of principles, not just laws.
Never became a paragon of virtue,
knowing my weakness, doesn’t deny or define truth.
Nonetheless I see life as relationships,
where particles alone, just don’t make sense in physics.
To see you from your view, is called empathy,
to care enough to care for you, is life’s remedy.
