The short version is as follows: Attended a host of universities, including USC, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UCSD (where I finally graduated, with a degree in Computational Epistemology)...with many years in between each school, including a stint managing a book store and bumming around Europe. After graduating from UCSD I attended grad school at UCLA in Library and Information Science, where my dissertation was in intelligent information retrieval. Luckily, tho, I got fed up with the petty politics of academa and left before I finished my diss. I say luckily, because at this point in my life I can't imagine having spent the last 15 years as professor. After grad school I worked for Kaiser for 10 years doing international tech standards work (one of the main KP reps to Health Level Seven, which defines standards for how medical computers share information; and I was HL7's rep to the World Wide...Expand for more
